Tang Jie-Wen Tse Advance as Goh-Lai Face Tough Denmark Open Test
Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Chan Wen Tse advanced to the second round of the Denmark Open in Odense, defeating compatriots Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin 21-19, 21-16. According to a report by nst.com.my, the victory marks the temporary partnership’s second successive opening-round win on the European tour.
Tang Jie has been competing with Wen Tse following an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained by his regular partner, Toh Ee Wei, at the Singapore Open in May. The makeshift combination previously opened the Arctic Open in Finland last week with a 21-15, 21-16 win over Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing, before exiting in the second round against China’s world No. 1 pair Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping.

Independent pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai also advanced, defeating Americans Chen Zhi Yi and Francesca Corbett 21-15, 21-13. The world No. 10 Malaysians enter the second round facing a tougher test against Denmark’s world No. 3 pair, Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, after suffering a first-round exit at the Arctic Open.
Following their victory, Shevon addressed the physical strain of the ongoing tournament schedule in a post-match interview reported by nst.com.my. Honestly, it’s quite tough because there’s no break for us. The Asian Games and then here, but no excuses. Everyone is going through the same thing, so it’s how we need to pace ourselves,
she said. She added that staying injury-free remains the primary priority. Definitely no injury for us now. Every tournament we finish without any injuries, without any accidents, that’s the most grateful part of it. Winning or losing, finishing early or late, I think that’s secondary now for us. We just want to enjoy and really do well.

Tang Jie and Wen Tse face either Indonesia’s Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah or China’s sixth seeds Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui for a place in the quarter-finals.
