Antonsen and Blichfeldt: Danish Duo Conquer Arctic Open Titles
Anders Antonsen and Mia Blichfeldt claimed maiden Arctic Open titles in Vantaa, Finland, securing a double singles victory for Denmark on Sunday.
While Antonsen faced a grueling test to overcome his opponent, Blichfeldt delivered a commanding performance to sweep through her final in under an hour. The contrasting paths to victory highlighted a dramatic Sunday at the Vantaan Energia Areena, where both Danish players ultimately clinched their respective crowns.
Antonsen Survives Marathon Final Against Tanaka
Men’s singles world No. 6 Anders Antonsen had to endure an 87-minute battle against Japan’s world No. 18 Yushi Tanaka. After dropping the first game, the Dane fought back to win 16-21, 21-16, 27-25 at the Vantaan Energia Areena.
Antonsen, who previously eliminated world No. 56 Lee Zii Jia in the semi-finals on Saturday, was forced to save three match points in a titanic third game to subdue Tanaka. The victory marks Antonsen’s 12th career World Tour title and his second crown of the year, following his triumph at the Thailand Open in May. It also adds to Denmark’s historical success at the tournament, where Rasmus Gemke last won the men’s singles title in 2017.
Blichfeldt Completes Giant-Killing Run Against Ratchanok
In the women’s singles, world No. 18 Mia Blichfeldt needed just 42 minutes to secure her first title of the year by defeating former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-17, 21-13.
The 29-year-old Blichfeldt put together a dominant sequence of upsets, beginning in the quarter-finals by defeating China’s world No. 8 Han Yue. She followed that performance with a semi-final victory over Japan’s 2017 world champion Nozomi Okuhara before toppling the fifth-ranked Ratchanok. The triumph marks Blichfeldt’s second Super 500 crown—following the 2025 Hylo Open—and her sixth World Tour title, succeeding Julie Dawall Jacobsen, who was Denmark’s last women’s singles winner at the tournament in 2019.
