Xiaomi Pad mini Challenges Android Tablet‌ Norms, Changing One Editor’s Viewpoint

Teh Xiaomi Pad Mini is redefining the small tablet ‌experience, according⁢ to a recent review by Android Authority‘s Mishaal Rahman. Initially skeptical⁣ of smaller tablets, Rahman found the Pad Mini not only met ‌expectations‍ but fundamentally altered his view of ‌the form factor.

Available in Gray or ⁢Purple in select Asian countries⁢ for around⁤ $429, the Pad Mini features 256 or 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage and a 7,500mAh battery supporting 67W wired charging. Connectivity options include dual USB-C ports (one with video ⁢output that⁢ currently only mirrors the display), Wi-Fi ‌7, ⁤and Bluetooth 5.4.‌ it also boasts dual stereo speakers, a 13MP rear camera, and an 8MP front-facing camera.

While‌ praising the device, rahman noted limitations including a⁤ lack of home screen customization options compared to Xiaomi phones and the inability to extend the display to an external monitor – despite ⁤the inclusion⁤ of ⁢a second USB-C port. He anticipates improvements through upcoming software updates, particularly with the arrival of Android 16, which promises foundational improvements to the‍ desktop‍ experience, a new Linux Terminal app, and expanded AI ⁤tools⁣ for writing, speech ‌recognition, interpretation,⁤ and AI Art generation.

“The Xiaomi Pad Mini didn’t just meet my expectations; it‌ changed my perspective‌ on what a small tablet coudl be,” Rahman stated.

Smartphone Sales Ranking: iPhone 16 Leads, Samsung Dominates

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor September 14, 2025

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G tops Global Smartphone Sales in Q2 2025

The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G was the world’s most popular Android smartphone in the second quarter of 2025, according to new data from Counterpoint Research. The device’s success is attributed to its affordability, solid performance powered by the exynos 1330 processor, and a commitment to six years of Android updates. This highlights a growing consumer preference for value and long-term software support in the smartphone market.

The top ten best-selling smartphones also included the Samsung Galaxy A06 4G in fourth place, offering basic functionality at a low price point, and the iPhone 16e in fifth, positioned as a more accessible entry into the apple ecosystem. Notably, only one flagship android device, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, made the list, reinforcing the trend toward budget-amiable options. Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C 4G was the sole smartphone from outside the Apple-Samsung dominance, gaining traction in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa due to its competitive pricing.

Minor shifts occurred between the first and second quarters, with the iPhone 15 replaced by the newer, more affordable iPhone 16e,featuring an Apple A18 ARM processor but lacking features like Magsafe and an ultrazerocal lens. The data suggests a market increasingly focused on value and sustained support, with Apple appealing to loyal customers through performance and Samsung catering to Android users with extended software updates. The global smartphone market currently appears largely divided between these two brands.

iPhone 17 ‌Pre-Orders Shatter Records in China ⁢Despite Air Model Delay

BEIJING -‍ Pre-orders‌ for Apple’s iPhone 17 series have surged in China, exceeding all ⁤previous‍ records‌ despite ⁣a ‍delay in the release of the new,ultra-thin iPhone ‍Air model.‍ Within the first minute of availability on Friday at 8 p.m. local time, sales on JD.com, a major Chinese e-commerce platform, surpassed ‍the total first-day pre-order‍ volume for last ‌year’s iPhone 16 series.

The ⁢strong demand underscores ⁢Apple’s continued popularity in the crucial Chinese market, even ‍as‍ the company navigates regulatory hurdles. The standard iPhone 17 model with 256GB of storage proved the most popular choice on JD.com. ⁤The iPhone Air’s release has been ⁢postponed while Apple works⁤ with Chinese authorities to gain approval for its embedded SIM technology.

Reports indicate overwhelming demand led to ⁢website access issues for ‌customers attempting ⁣to pre-order directly from Apple. Chinese media outlet The Paper reported difficulties accessing the pre-order page on Friday.

Customers who successfully ‍placed orders faced processing delays, ⁣with one reporting a⁢ five-minute wait for payment confirmation.
