Toyota Indonesia Introduces Rangga Concept: Hilux Rangga to be Launched in 2024

Jakarta –

Toyota Indonesia is sure to return to play in the commercial segment, by introducing the Rangga Concept, and is sure to sell it in 2024 under the name Toyota Hilux Rangga. How come it’s different from Thailand which introduced it as the Hilux Champ.

Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Anton Jimmi Suwandy gave the answer. It seems that the choice of Hilux accessories was not without a plan, and Toyota believes that the Hilux Rangga will be more familiar to Indonesian consumers.

“We use the name Hilux Rangga because we sell this in Indonesia, and I think the Hilux Champ is perhaps less well known to Indonesians,” said Anton.

“I see, so why do we use a more Indonesian name so that it can be adapted to the needs in Indonesia too, I see. So we’ll see the model specifications later,” Anton added.

Anton added that Toyota Indonesia’s specifications are currently still in the finalization stage, and he estimates what specifications are most appropriate for consumers in Indonesia.

“Later, please be patient with the details later. Because we still have a lot to finalize. So what we can say today is that we will launch (introduce),” Anton added.

In Thailand, the Hilux Champ is equipped with three engine variants, namely petrol 4-cylinder 2,000 cc and 2,700 cc, and diesel 4-cylinder 2,400 cc. This supply is channeled to the wheels via a 5-speed automatic and manual transmission.

The vehicle’s petrol engine uses the code TR-FE, while the diesel engine has the code 2GD-FTV. The Hilux Champ has gone on sale in Thailand with a price range of 459 thousand to 577 thousand baht or the equivalent of IDR 203-255 million.

Indonesia’s Toyota Astra Motor Responds to Worldwide Decline in Electric Vehicle Sales

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 26, 2023

Jakarta –

Worldwide sales of electric vehicles are decreasing. Reuters said carmakers such as Tesla, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz said they were worried that high interest rates and sluggish market dynamics would further reduce the popularity of electric cars. Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) as the agent holding the Toyota brand in Indonesia provided its response.

“Yes, we are always monitoring and looking at the situation, and I don’t think in the future we will say which technology is better. All technology is basically good, it’s just a matter of how each market accepts it,” said the Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM ), Anton Jimmi Suwandy, at the 2023 Toyota Media Gathering.

Even though sales of electric vehicles in the world are sluggish, Anton believes that Toyota will provide all technological options from the automotive industry, to meet all consumer needs.

“From Toyota, we see that we have to provide all options. Because all segments also require their own choices, so let the customer or market decide. Moreover, Indonesia is a large country (it has hundreds of millions of people), Anton added.

On the same occasion, Anton also said that although petrol or ICE vehicle technology is increasingly sophisticated and capable of reducing exhaust emissions. The choice of electrified vehicles is still needed as an option for society.

“There is still a need (electrified vehicles), because the goal or target is carbon neutral, if carbon neutral only ICE I don’t think it will be able to fulfill it, so there has to be a combination of better ICE, better fuel, there is hybrid too, there is plug- in hybrid and BEV. I think that’s a combination that we can’t avoid, because we’re heading towards carbon neutrality. I think if it’s just ICE (or just conventional petrol vehicles) that’s not the answer,” concluded Anton.

Response from Toyota regarding cheap prices of Chinese cars in Indonesia

Jakarta –

It is said that the cheap prices of Chinese cars in Indonesia are because manufacturers do not make big profits. What did Toyota say in response to this?

It’s no secret that the Indonesian automotive market is dominated by Japanese brand cars. Having been on the roads in Indonesia for decades, there is probably no need to doubt the quality of Japanese cars.

However, in the last five years, Chinese car manufacturers have begun to ‘invade’ Indonesia. The options provided by the Chinese car manufacturer are in line with the wishes of the Indonesian people who want cars at pocket-friendly prices.

Chinese manufacturers fulfill this desire by presenting cars at more affordable prices. Even though the price is more affordable, the technology included is no less sophisticated than Japanese cars which are priced higher. Regarding the cheap prices of Chinese cars, Vice President of PT Chery Sales Indonesia Harry Kamora said that other manufacturers make too big a profit when selling in Indonesia.

“So the price of our product is the real figure. How can anyone selling want to make a loss? But when I’m asked, (I answer) it’s just other producers who (take) too much profit,” said Harry recently.

Responding to this, Toyota as one of the automotive manufacturers involved in Indonesia has its own assessment. For Toyota, car pricing is not random and prices are relative. Even at that price, there is quality that has been tested and there is no longer any need for Indonesian consumers to doubt it.

“This is a competition, right? everybody can say everythingbut back again the proof is yes and we feel that we adjust the prices we apply product quality and needs, otherwise it would be impossible for Toyota to be number 1 with a market share of more than 30%,” said PT Toyota Astra Motor Marketing Director Anton Jimmi Suwandy when met at the Keio Plaza Hotel, Tokyo.

Anton further added that regarding price determination, there are negotiations that must be carried out regarding company policy. Plus, at Toyota consumers will get various conveniences in maintaining their car.

“It’s not the price, oh it’s this price, we have to negotiate to sell this volume, the price has to be this much and we have to be careful, what’s the price of the car? What’s the price of the car? The price of the car is what’s in it. We have a branch of 300 mechanics who experience, spare part available, free service and resale value “That’s the case, so it’s not comparable if you just talk about seeing iron against iron, you know,” added Anton.

Toyota Launches New Car ‘Rangga Concept’ at GIIAS 2023: Exploring the Name and its Significance

Jakarta –

Toyota will enliven the light commercial vehicle segment by launching a new car. The candidate for the new car is called ‘Rangga Concept’ and is currently exhibiting at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023. It is interesting to discuss, why use the name Rangga?

The name Rangga is actually familiar to Toyota Indonesia. The Kijang Capsule, which was introduced in 1997, had a total change in shape where the Kijang Capsule appeared more aerodynamic with smoother curves. For the first time, Kijang is available in diesel and automatic transmission variants.

The Toyota Kijang Capsule is offered in two variants, namely the Toyota Kijang Krista and the Toyota Kijang Rangga. At that time, Kijang Capsule broke a sales record, from sales of 56,831 units in 1996, it rose to 81,134 units in 1997. This was the first reason Toyota used the name Rangga.

“The first has something to do with Kijang. Yes, there used to be Kijang Rangga,” said Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Anton Jimmi Suwandy at ICE BSD Tangerang, Thursday (10/8/2023).

Second, the name is like a prayer. Toyota hopes that Rangga will become a champion in the commercial segment. Anton said Rangga’s position would be above Carry and Gran Max.

“Second, Rangga means knight, hero, champion. So this is a business whiz. That’s about it,” explained Anton.

Toyota’s big name in Indonesia is inseparable from its past history. Pickup cars became the forerunners of Japanese manufacturers to become automotive giants in the country. So, the Rangga concept car is planned to launch in late 2023 or early 2024.

“We don’t forget that the Kijang pickup was one of the forerunners of Toyota in Indonesia. Now we don’t have a product like that. So this is an alternative, now that commercial cars rarely have noses and are stylish,” said Anton.

“The IMV platform is also well-known, in terms of durability and proven capability,” he added.
