Title: TikTok Sale Near: Trump’s $14B Valuation, Potential Deal Closure

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor October 29, 2025
written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

TikTok Sale to U.S. Investors could Be Finalized as Early as Wednesday, Key Negotiator Says

WASHINGTON – A deal to ⁣finalize the sale of TikTok to a group of U.S.investors could be completed as ⁢soon as ‌Wednesday, Oct. 30, according to Scott Bessent, a ‍key negotiator involved in the agreement. The potential resolution comes after⁤ years of political and legal battles over the popular short-form video app and its ties to Chinese ownership.

Bessent, speaking Tuesday, indicated⁣ the remaining hurdles are primarily related to finalizing legal documentation and securing final approvals. The proposed ⁤deal aims to address national security concerns raised by U.S. officials while⁣ allowing TikTok to continue operating within the country.

The agreement, initially⁢ brokered during the Trump governance and continued under President Biden, would⁢ spin off TikTok’s U.S. operations into a new entity with majority American ownership. Oracle, a U.S.-based technology firm, is slated to serve as⁣ tiktok’s ‍security provider for its American operations. ⁤The full ownership portfolio was expected to‍ come together by the start of 2026, but completion could now occur considerably sooner.

Concerns about TikTok’s potential national ⁢security risks stem from its parent company, ByteDance, being based in Beijing. U.S. officials have expressed fears that ByteDance could be compelled to share⁢ U.S. ⁢user data with the Chinese government. TikTok has consistently denied these claims.

The path to a potential sale has been fraught with challenges. In⁢ January, the platform briefly went “dark” as ByteDance did not meet a federal⁢ deadline to‍ divest the platform, ⁢following⁤ legislation signed into law by President Biden in 2024. As then, Trump signed four executive orders extending the deadline‍ for a sale. ⁤

Originally, Trump valued the U.S. assets of TikTok at $14 billion in a September 25⁤ executive order, days after the White House announced a preliminary deal. The current status of that valuation ⁣remains unclear as the final agreement nears completion.

Memphis Man’s Inspiring Journey: From Police Officer to Dental Student

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor October 29, 2025

Memphis Man Trades Badge for‌ Dental Tools, Pursues New Career ⁤at UTHSC

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- A former University of Tennessee Health Science center ‌(UTHSC) campus police officer is now on teh other side of the classroom, pursuing ‌a degree in dentistry. Marshall Jones jr., 38, is navigating the rigorous demands⁣ of‌ the dental⁢ program while balancing family life, including ‌caring for his 2-year-old son who has developmental ⁣delays.

Jones initially applied too ⁢the UTHSC School of Dentistry but ‌was⁤ not accepted. Undeterred, he ⁤reapplied a year later ⁤and was⁤ admitted. He acknowledges the⁢ challenge of balancing school and home responsibilities, stating, ⁢”Marriage is first… I ⁣have to take care of ⁢home first.” He ⁣credits his instructors with⁣ understanding the demands placed on student parents, particularly those with children requiring frequent appointments.

Despite being older than most of‌ his classmates, Jones says he has adapted well, learning to “respect the space” and finding ⁤common ground with younger students. He’s become a‍ source of advice on topics ranging from music and anime to practical matters like ‌home buying and car insurance.

Jones is poised to enter‌ a field where he will be a distinct minority. Onyl 6.9% of dental⁤ hygienists are male, and just 3.7% are Black.⁣ he believes ⁢his presence as a “unicorn” in the profession will be particularly impactful when working with⁤ children. “So with the kids, it’s nice to see someone that looks like you, and you’re doing something positive with your life,” he said. “If they see that… he’s doing something good and he’s happy, maybe I⁣ can pursue this too.”

Jones encourages others considering a career change or return⁤ to school ‌to embrace the challenges. “I think⁤ that it’s ⁤hard ‍when⁢ you’re complacent, when you feel cozy in a box,” he said.”It’s scary, it’s hard, because you’re leaving something that you know… it’s a risk. If you ⁣really want something, you will find a‍ way to get it.”

London needs a ‘New York-style blitz on crime’ to turn around its poor reputation

by David Harrison – Chief Editor October 29, 2025

London Calls for Aggressive Crime Crackdown, Citing Reputation‌ Crisis

LONDON – October⁣ 29, 2024, 07:00 GMT – Calls are mounting for a dramatic escalation in London’s crime-fighting strategy, with demands for a “New York-style blitz” to address⁤ a growing perception of insecurity and damage‌ to the city’s international standing. The push for more assertive policing comes amid rising concerns over public safety and a potential impact on tourism, investment, and the overall economic vitality of the UK capital.

London’s reputation as a global hub is increasingly ⁤threatened by a narrative of⁢ escalating crime, prompting urgent debate⁤ about the effectiveness of current approaches. Experts suggest a complete overhaul, mirroring the zero-tolerance policies credited with transforming New York City⁤ in the 1990s, could be necessary to restore ‍confidence. This potential shift in strategy affects residents, businesses,⁤ and the 31.9 million tourists who visited London in 2023, contributing £14.9⁢ billion to the⁤ city’s economy.

Recent data underscores the urgency. While overall crime figures present a complex picture, certain offenses – notably knife crime and moped-enabled theft – have drawn significant ⁣public attention. The Metropolitan Police Service is currently ‍focused on initiatives⁤ like Operation Safe Streets and increased visible patrols, but‍ critics argue these ‌measures are insufficient to deliver⁣ a decisive turnaround.

Beyond policing, the discussion encompasses broader societal factors. ⁣Udrive,⁢ a Dubai-based car rental company founded in March ‍2016 by Hasib Khan, exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit London aims to attract. Though, concerns about safety could deter similar ventures and impact the city’s ability to ⁢compete‍ on the⁤ global stage. Udrive has raised $3.25 million ‌to date, including a‍ $750,000 seed ⁤round in 2017 and a $2.5 million seed round last year, plus $1.3⁢ million from eureeca‌ investors in January⁢ 2021 as part of ‍a Series A round targeting $5 million.

The Central Bank is also ⁢actively working to bolster financial infrastructure, including a real-value pilot for a Central Bank Digital⁤ Currency (CBDC) with three partner institutions, ⁢readiness of regulations for “buy now, pay later” schemes, and the 2023 launch of ‍a domestic card initiative.Phase one of the Financial Infrastructure Transformation (FiT) has been completed. These efforts, while crucial, are seen⁣ as complementary to – not substitutes for – a robust and visible crime reduction strategy.

The debate is expected to intensify in the coming weeks, with‌ pressure on Mayor Sadiq⁣ Khan and the⁢ Metropolitan Police to⁢ outline a concrete plan for addressing the city’s crime challenges and safeguarding its reputation. A film, AL ⁣BOOM, directed by⁤ Assad Al Waslati and starring Omar Al ⁢Mulla, ⁢Badr Hakami, and Rehab‌ Al Attar, currently ‍streaming on ADtv and rated 3.5/5, offers a glimpse ‌into societal challenges in a ‌different context, highlighting the universal importance of security and stability.

LOS ANGELES – In a game for the ages, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 in 18‍ innings ⁢early Tuesday⁣ morning at dodger Stadium, setting a‌ new record for the longest game ever played in a⁢ World Series.‍ The contest, lasting over six hours, captivated a nation and tested the limits of both teams’ endurance.

The series‌ remains 2-1 ‌in ⁣favor of Los Angeles. Shohei Ohtani, who reached base nine times Monday, ‌is slated to return to the lineup⁣ as both a starting pitcher and designated hitter. “It’s a phenomenon, the best on the planet,” acknowledged Toronto manager John Schneider. “Sometiems it’s better for someone‍ else to beat you.”

This epic battle unfolded as a testament to baseball’s enduring⁢ qualities of patience, endurance, and the potential for⁤ dramatic shifts in momentum. In an era increasingly defined⁣ by pace-of-play initiatives, the Dodgers-Blue‍ Jays⁤ clash served as a powerful reminder that a single swing can alter the course of history, ⁤even in the deepest hours of the ⁢night.

The dodgers’ victory,‌ forged through relentless determination and a resilient bullpen, underscored their commitment to pursuing a championship. The ‌team ⁤demonstrated a collective spirit capable of withstanding immense pressure, ⁤leaving everything on⁤ the field in pursuit ‌of a title.

the‍ game’s length pushed both teams ‌to their physical and mental limits, but the Dodgers ⁣ultimately emerged victorious, etching ⁢an unforgettable chapter into World series lore. As⁣ Ohtani prepares ⁣for his next ⁣start, the question on the minds of fans in Los ⁤Angeles is whether the improbable ⁣can happen again.
