Nursing Home residents Subjected to Sexual Assault in Löhne
Löhne, Germany – Police in Herford, Germany, are investigating the sexual abuse of at least four elderly residents at the St. Laurentius nursing home in Löhne. The victims, all women between the ages of 89 and 96, suffer from dementia. Authorities believe the perpetrator specifically targeted vulnerable individuals.
The examination began after staff reported hearing distressed calls early wednesday morning. While none of the women sustained visible injuries, investigators are treating the case as “abuse of defenseless persons.” The incident has prompted a large-scale forensic examination of the facility and support for affected families. Investigators report the suspect may have gained entry through an unlocked door on the ground floor, and witnesses may have observed someone suspicious around the time of the incident, approximately 1:00 AM Wednesday.
Criminal technicians have collected bedding and clothing from the victims’ rooms to search for trace evidence, including fibers and DNA. Psychologists are providing support to the families of those affected.
