Royal Enfield‘s New Bear 650 Aims to revive ‘Desert Sled’ Appeal
Auckland, New Zealand -โฃ Royal Enfield has launched the Bear 650, โa new โmotorcycle designed to capture the spirit of classic โค”desert โsleds,” offering aโข blend ofโ retro styling and off-road capability. The bike shares its 650cc engine with the Interceptor roadster and Continental GT cafรฉ racer, but features a tuned two-into-one exhaust for increasedโฃ low-end torqueโฃ and top-end power.
Key โคfeaturesโ of the โคBearโ 650 include rear ABS that can be defeated with theโข push of a โbutton, increased ground โขclearance (184mm) compared to theโฃ Interceptor, and anโฃ additional 30mm of suspension travel. It’s equipped withโ 19-inch front โand 17-inch rear spoked wheels fitted with MRF tires optimized for both on- and off-road use. โคAโ double-cradleโค steel frame, longer wheelbase, โฃand โขslacker rake contribute to stability, while 43mm USD forks handleโค impacts.
Reviewers note the bike’s lower center of gravity โขallows for easier powersliding compared to taller adventure bikes. The Bear 650 also boasts a retro-styledโค instrument cluster housing a TFT screen, โคand all-LED lighting.
The 47bhp engine delivers “smooth, consistent riding force,”โฃ paired with a six-speed gearbox. Though, some drawbacks include firm rear shocks and a perhaps flimsy toggle for adjusting the TFT screen. The bike is โwell-suited โfor gravel roads โฃand smooth fireโ breaks,โ and also performs well on paved โฃsurfaces due to its accurate steering and cozy riding position.
