Lakeland Cybersecurity Center Aims to Combat Emerging Digital Threats
LAKELAND,Fla. -โ A new cybersecurity โคcenter launched through a collaboration between Florida Polytechnic University andโฃ tech firm Sittadel โwill focus on proactively designing solutions โฃto combatโ rapidly evolving digital threats,including โคthose posed byโฃ artificial intelligence. The center, โฃbased in lakeland, aims to address โขa critical workforce shortage and bring high-payingโข tech jobs to Polk County.
The initiativeโ comes as demand for cybersecurity professionals surges nationwide and within Florida. A recent state report projects a 39% growth โin jobsโ for details security analysts between 2021โ and 2029. The center’s curriculum willโฃ begin with foundational threat defense skills, then progress to exploring emerging threats,โ especially those linked to advancements in artificial intelligence. โข
“Will AIโ remain stagnant? Will it โonly revolutionize social engineering, or will it redefine how we thinkโค about malware, workstationโค security, โขor server security?” said Joshua Sitta, CEO of Sittadel. “We’re going to โleverage the students and their research focus before it’s too late.”
The center’sโฃ approach emphasizes anticipating future challenges rather than simply reacting to existing ones. Students will engage in research to understand how AI could be exploited โby malicious โฃactors and develop preventative measures. This proactive stance is intended to position Lakeland and Polk County asโฃ a hub for cutting-edge cybersecurityโฃ innovation.
