Harry Brook rescues England with stunning century in First ODI Against New Zealand
Mount Maunganui, New Zealand – A grand century from captain Harry Brook spared england from a potential collapse in the first One Day International against New Zealand at Bay oval today. Despite a shaky start that saw them reduced to 56/6, England finished on 223 all out in the 35th over, largely thanks to Brook’s explosive innings.
Brook smashed 132 runs off 101 balls, including 11 sixes, in a display of power hitting that turned the tide for the tourists. His crucial 87-run partnership with Jamie Overton for the seventh wicket and a further 57 runs alongside tailender Luke Wood proved vital in bolstering England’s total.
New Zealand’s Matt Henry made an immediate impact, dismissing England opener Jamie Smith with the very first ball of the innings. Wickets continued to fall steadily before Brook’s arrival at the crease. Ultimately, Brook was caught by Nathan Smith off the bowling of New Zealand captain Mitch Santner to end his innings.
New Zealand Squad: Mitchell Santner (capt), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Kane Williamson, Will Young.
