Nintendo Reveals First Look at Live-Action ‘Legend of Zelda‘ Film
Nintendo has unveiled the first official images of its highly anticipated live-action The Legend of Zelda adaptation, offering fans a glimpse of Bo Bragason as princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. the stills, released Monday via the Nintendo Today app, showcase the actors in character and costume within a pastoral setting.
The film, a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony, is directed by wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, The Maze Runner trilogy) and slated for theatrical release on May 7, 2027. This marks a important step in Nintendo’s expansion into cinematic adaptations following the blockbuster success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, and represents a long-awaited realization of a beloved video game franchise on the big screen.
Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto, producing the film, announced the casting of Bragason and Ainsworth earlier this year, stating, “I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
Bragason, a British actress, is known for her roles in Three Girls, the Jetty, Renegade Nell, and The Radleys. Ainsworth, also British, previously voiced the title role in Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio and appeared as Miles in netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor. He currently stars in Son of a Critch and had a role in The Sandman.
The released images depict Zelda with her signature bow and arrow, and both actors sporting costumes faithful to the classic Hylian designs, including pointed ears. For dedicated fans, these visuals offer reassurance that the adaptation is embracing the fantasy-adventure spirit that has defined the Legend of Zelda as one of the best-selling video game series of all time.
