Jakub Voráček: Expansion of Extra-League Kladno Hockey Team Implementation with 2010 World Champion

The 2010 world champion Jakub Voráček will expand the implementation team of extra-league Kladno hockey players.

The 34-year-old striker, who interrupted his career in the NHL for health reasons, will act as a mentor at the club.

The Knights announced his engagement on the official website.

“We offered Kuba if he would like to help Kladna as a coach, and we are pleased that he accepted,” said sports manager Jiří Burger.

The Kladen official specified that one of the most outstanding Czech figures in the NHL in recent years is to act as a mentor for the team. “And they will mainly focus on power play,” added Burger.

Voráček was born in Kladno and went overseas in 2006. Participant in six World Championships, the Olympic Games and the World Cup in the elite Canadian-American League, he played 1,058 games, scored 223 goals and added 583 assists. In the playoffs, he collected 28 points (9+19) in 49 games.

He played eleven games in the NHL last season, after which Columbus placed him on the long-term injured list due to repeated problems with concussions.

In March of this year, the club traded him to Arizona, but he did not participate in the season and should not play in the next year of the NHL either.

“It happened quickly and it was a bit of a surprise. I called Džegr (by Jaromir Jágr) and we agreed on some form of cooperation. It will be a new experience for me and I hope to help Kladno,” said Voráček.

Logan Cooley’s Dazzling Action in NHL Season Preparations

He is still looking forward to his first competitive game in the NHL, but Logan Cooley captivated hockey fans right in the opening preparations for the new season. The 19-year-old newcomer did not act like a rookie at all, on the contrary, he dazzled with an action in which he acted like a seasoned greaser.

The game preparation before the new NHL season started with a match in Melbourne, Australia, where the Arizona hockey players defeated Los Angeles 5:3.

Over 13,000 spectators watched the premier match of the NHL teams in the southern hemisphere in the Rod Laver Tennis Arena.

And they were ecstatic, especially in the 32nd minute, when Cooley exchanged the puck with Switzerland’s JJ Moser in a flash, stretched around the goalpost, made two impressive turns and sent the puck behind Phoenix Copley’s back in the Los Angeles goal.

The great event excited fans and commentators, who called the native of Pittsburgh a “dancer”.

The American forward was the third pick in last year’s draft, but he spent last season with the University of Minnesota team in the NCAA college competition. In 39 games, he accumulated 60 points for 22 goals and 38 assists.

This year, the admirer of Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin won bronze at the World Junior Championships, where he had the same number of goals and assists in seven games and was the second most productive player and second top scorer of the tournament behind the celebrated Canadian mega-talent Connor Bedard.

At the end of July, he signed a three-year rookie contract with Arizona.

And a wonderful goal against the Los Angeles net should be the next step to the dream NHL.

Cooley made it 4-1 for the Coyotes in Australia, after a scoreless first period, the second period ended 4-3.

Czech goalkeeper David Rittich started the final period for the defeated Californian team, who missed three shots, and the Coyotes sealed the result on a power play into an empty net.

Connor Ingram caught the entire match for the winner, Karel Vejmelka remained on the substitutes’ bench.

On Sunday, Arizona and Los Angeles will meet at the same place for the second time.

Why Jan Myšák’s NHL Career Hasn’t Taken Off: Experts and Coaches Weigh In

Why Jan Myšák’s NHL Career Hasn’t Taken Off: Experts and Coaches Weigh In

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 12, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

He is one of the biggest Czech talents of recent years, and many expected that by this time he would have played in the NHL. However, hockey player Jan Myšák has not yet broken through even on the farm. It’s a mystery to some experts.

The rookie camp of the Montreal Canadiens will start on Wednesday with Czech goalkeepers Jakub Dobeš and Jan Špunar – although the latter does not belong to the club, he has received an invitation.

They will be joined by the 21-year-old forward Myšák, whose career has stalled somewhat.

He was talked about as a first-round pick before the 2020 draft, eventually going in the second – 48th overall. Even so, he was the most popular Czech.

However, he has not confirmed his star potential much since then. At the penultimate World Junior Championship, he led the Czech Republic to a respectable fourth place as the team’s captain and top scorer, but is otherwise stagnant.

In the last season of the farm AHL for Laval, i.e. a suburb of Montreal, he collected only nine points (5+4) from 40 games. Although he came from the Canadian junior OHL, he already had experience with professional hockey, mainly from extra-league Litvínov. Therefore, more was expected.

“I wasn’t good enough,” Myšák himself told the newspaper The Montreal Journal. “But I know I can show more. I have the skills to push myself offensively.”

He did not want to make excuses about the injury in the lower part of the body, which caused him to miss 32 games of the regular season.

In the ranking of Montreal talent under 23, compiled by the website The Athletic, fell through anyway. At 13th place, he has uncertain prospects. “I can envision him as an energetic third- or fourth-line winger, but I also envision him not even coming close to the NHL,” wrote Corey Pronman.

If anyone still believes in Myšák, it’s his coach from the Canadian junior team, Jay McKee. “He still has a chance at the NHL. Jan is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met,” he said of his former protégé.

“I wish I had five guys like him every year, because it’s players like that who show the way to the younger guys,” he continued. “He was like a Swiss army knife, really. When he wasn’t scoring goals, he made life difficult for opponents with relentless forechecking and speed. He created chances. Just an incredibly effective player, whether he was on the scoresheet or not.”

Under McKee, Myšák collected about a point per game, but he is still struggling among the adults.

The reasons are difficult to find.

Scott Wheeler, who specializes in young talents, once believed in Myšák so much that he assigned him a great twelfth position in his personal rankings before the 2020 draft. He obviously overshot. Even today, he is unable to say exactly what he did wrong. At the same time it does not cause a problem for other mistakes.

“I didn’t come to any great revelation or perhaps a moment of enlightenment. Practically every time I watched Myšák live, whether it was the OHL, junior championships, Memorial Cup, rookie tournaments, or even the AHL, I saw an impressive player who works hard and is pretty handy,” Wheeler began.

According to him, Myšák is a better hockey player than his statistics show in the three seasons after the draft.

“I don’t understand. He plays to his full potential and with a style with which he should be successful anywhere. But the AHL just hasn’t suited him yet. I hope he will make great progress in Laval this year, I really think he is capable of it,” added the journalist.

Myšák can be reassured that he has a contract for two more seasons, only then Montreal must decide what to do with the Czech forward.

The Arizona Coyotes placed forward Alex Galchenyuk on the unconditional waiver list with the goal of terminating his contract.

The move comes just 12 days after signing a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $225,000 at the minor league level. The club wrote in the announcement that it will not comment further on this move.

PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan reports that the NHL is investigating the matter. ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski claims the Coyotes made the move after learning of an “off-ice matter” they were unaware of at the time of the signing.

Galchenyuk will become an unrestricted free agent after being on the waiver list.

The 29-year-old American played 11 games for the Avalanche last season without earning a point. He played the next 42 games for the Eagles in the AHL. In them he collected 42 points (16+26). In the past, he also played for the Canadiens, Coyotes, Penguins, Wild, Senators and Maple Leafs.

In the sixth game of the second round of the NHL playoffs, the Vegas hockey players won 5:2 on the ice of Edmonton and advanced to the finals of the Western Conference. Jonathan Marchessault led the Golden Knights’ fourth win with a hat trick. Vegas advanced to the Stanley Cup semifinals for the fourth time in the club’s six-year history.

The match started at a thrilling pace. Not even three minutes had passed and Edmonton was leading 2-1. The Oilers answered Vegas’ opening goal 24 seconds into the game with two goals. Even in the first minute, the most productive player of the playoffs, Connor McDavid, equalized and Warren Foegele turned the score around.

The second period belonged to Marchessault. The Canadian forward scored three goals in 14 minutes and completed his second hat trick in the knockout stages. He rounded the point gain in the current playoff to ten points.

In the final act, Edmonton staved off elimination. He outshot his opponents 13:5, but none of the Oilers players were able to beat Adin Hill in the Vegas goal. In the end, however, the Golden Knights added a fifth goal. In Edmonton’s risk without a goalie, William Karlsson sealed Vegas’ progress.

In the Western Conference finals, the Golden Knights will face one of Dallas and Seattle. The seventh game, which is played on Tuesday night, will decide the progress. If Seattle advances, the two youngest clubs in the NHL would meet.
