GM Software & Services Engineering Head Departs โFollowing Restructuring
DETROIT โค – Dave Richardson, senior vice president of software and servicesโฃ engineeringโค at General Motors, is leaving the company, GM announced Friday. The departureโข comes just a week โafter Richardson appeared alongside CEO mary Barra at โคa New York event showcasing GM’s advancements in autonomous driving and artificial intelligence.
Richardson joined GM โคin September 2023 and assumedโ his current roleโฃ in June 2024. GM stated the move is a result of organizational restructuring โand does โnot signalโฃ a shift in theโค company’s overall technology strategy.
“We’re changing the structure of the Software and Services Engineering team to accelerate how we develop and deliver technology experiences to our customers โand the company,” GM said inโค aโฃ statement.”as part of this change,we are bringing together vehicle softwareโค engineering and Globalโฃ Product under โoneโข association,lead by Sterlingโฃ Anderson. David Richardson has elected to step down fromโ his role at GM, and โwe thankโฃ him for โขhis contributions.”
Anderson was appointed chief productโ officer in June, bringing experience from tesla, were he led the Model X andโค Autopilot programs, andโค Aurora, a self-driving commercial vehicleโข company.
Both Anderson and Richardson were based at GM’s Mountain View Technical Center in California, opened in โMay 2024 as part ofโข an โeffort to attract tech talentโ and modernize โthe automaker’s image.
Prior โขto GM, Richardson spent 12 years at Apple, leading engineering teams โfor services including iCloud, โขFaceTime, and Siri.
