Title: BBM Scarcity: DPR Criticizes Bahlil’s Fuel Policy

DPR Commission XII Deputy chairman Criticizes Energy MinisterS Directive for Private Gas Stations to Purchase Fuel from pertamina

Jakarta‌ – Deputy⁢ Chairman of Commission XII of ‌the Indonesian House of‌ representatives (DPR), Bambang Wuryanto, has sharply criticized a recent directive from the⁢ Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM)⁤ requiring private gas stations to purchase ⁢fuel from ‌state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina amidst ongoing fuel scarcity. Wuryanto characterized the policy as illogical and counterproductive, comparing it⁤ to forcing small fried rice vendors‌ to buy ⁤rice from larger vendors, even though both source their rice from the same market.

The directive comes as Pertamina, also a⁣ fuel importer, faces challenges in meeting national‍ demand, leading to queues and limited availability at some stations. Wuryanto argued the policy fails to address the root cause of the issue and could exacerbate problems for private gas stations, which represent only 5% of the market and primarily sell non-subsidized fuel. He noted‌ a‍ recent shift in consumer preference towards private stations following past issues with Pertamina, suggesting the increased private quota ⁢is a‌ result of this transition, not a surge in overall demand.

“Private obligations to buy from Pertamina are‌ actually ⁤also strange, because Pertamina is also an⁢ importer. Unless Pertamina produces excess fuel from the ⁣needs,” Wuryanto stated. He further expressed concern that such policies create ⁢unnecessary burdens ⁢and require the President to “firefight” minor issues ‌that do not impact state finances.

Wuryanto highlighted the potential for layoffs at private gas stations due to the ⁢scarcity⁣ and ‍the⁢ new purchasing requirement,as reported by Kompas.com on September⁣ 19, 2025. He suggested ‍the Ministry’s ‍policies‍ lack complete impact mitigation and ultimately prove counterproductive.

Fuel Scarcity Concerns: Gerindra Urges ESDM to Prioritize Supply Chain

Gerindra Urges Energy Ministry to Secure Fuel Supply Chain Amidst Scarcity Concerns

Jakarta, Indonesia – A leading figure in Indonesia’s Gerindra party is calling on the ⁢Ministry of Energy⁣ and mineral Resources (ESDM) to prioritize the stability of the fuel supply chain following reports of scarcity at privately-owned gas stations. Bambang haryadi,Secretary of the Gerindra Faction⁣ in the DPR (House of Representatives),emphasized the need for careful ⁣consideration of potential disruptions.

“The‌ Ministry of Energy and⁤ Mineral resources must pay close attention to the stability⁢ of the‌ supply chain and distribution networks,” Haryadi stated on Thursday, September 18th, 2025. “Any policy decisions must factor ‌in ⁣the potential impact on the fuel ‌supply and the livelihoods of workers in⁢ the ‌sector.”

Haryadi highlighted the significant disparity between state-owned Pertamina‘s extensive network – boasting 6,400 gas stations and 6,700 Pertashops – and the comparatively smaller presence⁢ of private operators, which number around 450 stations, representing approximately 5% of ‍Pertamina’s total.

“Given this imbalance, ESDM must proceed with caution,” Haryadi warned. “A fuel shortage could erode public trust in the government.”

the concerns come as President Prabowo subianto’s management settles in, and Haryadi stressed the importance of mitigating any potential disruptions that could impact the new government’s stability. He urged complete risk assessment‍ and mitigation⁢ strategies to ‍prevent public unrest.

“We hope that in making policies, comprehensive mitigation is carried out so as not to cause public noise that disrupts President Prabowo’s administration,” he concluded.

The ‍call for vigilance underscores ‍the critical role of a‌ reliable fuel supply in maintaining economic stability and public confidence ⁤in ‍Indonesia.

Electric Cars Threaten Gas Stations, Indonesian Refinery Industry

china’s EV ‌Boom Forces⁤ Gas Stations⁢ to Close, Signals Global Refinery Shift

Jakarta, Indonesia – The rapid adoption⁣ of ⁤electric vehicles ‌(EVs) in china‌ is‌ causing a dramatic decline ⁣in the number of⁤ traditional gasoline stations, with over 60% now shuttered, according to the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). This trend signals a⁢ potential ⁢global shift impacting the⁤ refinery⁢ industry as the world transitions towards cleaner energy sources.

Deputy Minister‍ of Energy and Mineral Resources, yuliot Tanjung, highlighted the significant impact of China‘s‍ leadership in⁤ the EV market. “Looking at gas stations in China, more than‍ 60% have closed. This reflects a change in energy consumption patterns⁣ and may‌ have repercussions for ‍refineries worldwide,”‍ Tanjung stated, as reported by CNBC Indonesia.

The⁤ surge in EV adoption⁣ – encompassing private vehicles, public⁤ transportation, and even heavy-duty transport and shipping – is driving⁤ this change.Tanjung believes⁤ the global energy‌ transition is ⁢a key factor, potentially forcing ‌refineries ⁢to⁢ adapt or face decline.

This⁢ shift isn’t limited to fuel stations.‌ The‍ automotive component industry is also bracing for disruption. Yannes Pasaribu, an automotive observer ‍from the Bandung⁣ Institute of Technology (ITB), warns ‌that approximately 45% of Indonesia’s component manufacturers, particularly those specializing in motorcycle parts, could face closure as demand for⁣ traditional internal combustion ⁢engine components wanes.

Indonesia Fuel Import: Pertamina to Facilitate Supply

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 13, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Jakarta, October 12, 2025 – Indonesia is centralizing fuel imports through state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, including supplies destined for private gas stations, to ensure sufficient stock and streamline teh process. The move comes as the government assesses total fuel needs, currently estimated at 1.4 million kiloliters based on preliminary consolidation data.

Yuliot, an official at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, explained the government is requesting detailed import needs data from each business entity. “So from this how manny portions of Pertamina, how many portions of business entities, this is the data we ask for a detail. Because the government in giving the approval until the end of the year is about how much needs,” Yuliot said Friday. The “one door” import system aims to prevent shortages during implementation.

The initiative is partially linked to a trade agreement with the United States, perhaps involving US companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron for procurement, though the source of supply remains flexible. “But this is recorded as our trade balance with America,” Yuliot added.

The government initially opened fuel imports through Pertamina to address fuel shortages at private stations, notably when Pertamina’s refinery output is insufficient. However, Director General of oil and Gas Laode Sulaeman noted that private sector entities have yet to agree to purchase fuel from Pertamina due to differing specifications regarding fuel additives.

“Each business entity has its own specifications of its additives. If the BBM specifications are the same,” Laode explained Wednesday. The Ministry is currently collecting data from private gas stations to relay to Pertamina, enabling the company to determine the volume of additional imports required.
