Title: Cahya Supriadi: Indonesian U23 Goalkeeper Praised After Loss

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor September 10, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Sidoarjo, Indonesia – South Korea U-23 coach ‍Lee Min-Sung singled out Indonesian goalkeeper Cahya Supriadi for praise following a narrow ⁤1-0 victory Tuesday ⁣night at Gelora Delta Sidoarjo.Despite the win, Min-Sung acknowledged Cahya’s strong performance as a key factor in limiting the scoreline. The match, a final group stage fixture in 2026 Asian Cup qualifying Group J, saw Hwang Do-Yoon score the lone goal. However, Indonesia’s Cahya repeatedly thwarted South Korean ⁢attacks, notably making two crucial saves in quick succession after halftime. “The Indonesian goalkeeper‍ did his⁣ job well,” Min-Sung stated. “In addition, we also failed to direct the ball on target. That’s⁢ why we can only score one goal.”

Indonesia finished second in group J with‌ four points, but⁣ will not advance to the 2026 Asian Cup in Saudi⁣ Arabia, falling short of securing a⁣ spot as one of the four best runners-up. Coach Gerald Vanenburg’s team now faces elimination from contention.

following the match, Cahya expressed gratitude to⁣ the fans for their support. “Of course I thank the suporter who has been around for a⁢ long time and support ‍us,” he said.He also acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, stating, “We know our condition is not okay. We apologize for⁣ failing to qualify for the 2026 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.”

Germany’s Merz Warns of Diminished US Alliance, Seeks New Partnerships

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 8, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

German Opposition Leader Calls for Europe⁢ to Forge New Global Partnerships Amid Shifting US Relationship

BERLIN – Friedrich Merz, leader of GermanyS Christian Democratic Union (CDU), delivered⁢ a stark assessment of the⁤ future transatlantic relationship, warning against⁤ “false nostalgia” for the⁤ past and urging Europe to proactively build new alliances worldwide.⁤ Merz’s remarks signal a growing‍ sentiment within Germany’s political landscape that Europe must bolster its own strength and strategic ⁣independence, notably as the⁣ dynamics with the United States evolve.

The call for a more diversified global strategy‍ comes as Europe navigates increasing “systemic rivalry” with China and uncertainty surrounding potential shifts in U.S. foreign policy. Merz’s statements underscore a belief that Europe’s future⁣ security and economic prosperity depend on its ability to‌ forge partnerships beyond its traditional alliances, reducing reliance on any single global power. this shift has significant implications for trade, raw material sourcing, and the overall geopolitical balance.

Merz emphasized that the future of the relationship with the U.S. will be determined by‍ “our strength as Europeans,” advocating for a more ‍issue- and interest-driven approach ⁤rather than a blanket reliance on the existing alliance. ⁤He stressed the necessity of expanding and strengthening existing partnerships while actively ⁤seeking new ones across the globe.

Specifically, Merz highlighted the need to diversify supply chains for raw materials and trade, acknowledging increasing tensions with Beijing. while Germany remains open to cooperation with China on‌ issues like climate policy, the CDU leader argued for prioritizing partnerships with countries in South America, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and across Africa and Asia – extending beyond the⁤ G20 nations.

The German opposition leader’s comments reflect a broader debate within Europe about its ⁢strategic autonomy and its role in a rapidly changing world order. The push for new alliances is intended to enhance Europe’s ⁣”strategic⁢ sovereignty” and⁤ ensure its continued influence on the global stage.

Indonesia Cabinet Reshuffle After Protests, Economic Turmoil

Indonesian President Removes Finance Minister Following Deadly Protests

Jakarta, Indonesia – September 4, 2023 – Indonesian President Joko widodo has removed Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati from her post in the wake of widespread⁣ and ⁢violent protests sparked by controversial housing allowances for members of Parliament. The move comes as the government attempts to quell public anger over economic hardship and perceived corruption.

The ⁤protests, which gripped Southeast Asia’s largest ‌economy-home to ⁣over 280 million⁢ people-began after reports surfaced that all 580 members of ⁤the House of Representatives where receiving a monthly housing allowance of 50 million rupiah ($3,075), along with their salaries. This allowance, introduced last ⁤year, is nearly ten times the minimum wage in Jakarta.

Demonstrations escalated over five days, resulting in at least seven to ten reported deaths, according to police and the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).The deaths were ‍attributed,⁣ in⁤ part, to an “inhumane approach” by security forces, Komnas HAM reported. The protests intensified following the death of 21-year-old ride-hailing driver Affan Kurniawan,⁤ who fell⁣ after being ⁢struck by an armored police car during a presentation.

amidst the unrest, the homes ⁤of several lawmakers, including Indrawati’s residence in South Tangerang, were looted on August 31.

President Widodo responded by revoking the lawmakers’ perks and privileges, including the housing allowance, and suspending overseas ‍trips. He also dismissed the ministers of cooperatives, youth and sport, and migrant workers protection, after facing criticism for a photograph showing him playing dominoes with a former illegal logging suspect.

The removal of Indrawati, ⁤who is recognized for maintaining a stable fiscal policy, triggered a 1.28% drop in the Jakarta‍ Composite Index on Monday, closing at 7,766.85, down 100.5 points. The rupiah, though, strengthened 0.75% against the U.S. dollar, reaching 16,309.

Economists note Indrawati’s long ⁣tenure saw her accommodate aspiring presidential programs, leading to increased⁤ government debt. Her successor, Thomas Lembong (known as Sadewa), is described as a capable economist but lacks extensive experience⁣ in managing fiscal‍ and state finances.Indrawati is ‌one of Indonesia’s longest-serving finance ministers.
