Indonesia Fuel Import: Pertamina to Facilitate Supply

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 13, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Jakarta, October 12, 2025 – Indonesia is centralizing fuel imports through state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, including supplies destined for private gas stations, to ensure sufficient stock and streamline teh process. The move comes as the government assesses total fuel needs, currently estimated at 1.4 million kiloliters based on preliminary consolidation data.

Yuliot, an official at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, explained the government is requesting detailed import needs data from each business entity. “So from this how manny portions of Pertamina, how many portions of business entities, this is the data we ask for a detail. Because the government in giving the approval until the end of the year is about how much needs,” Yuliot said Friday. The “one door” import system aims to prevent shortages during implementation.

The initiative is partially linked to a trade agreement with the United States, perhaps involving US companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron for procurement, though the source of supply remains flexible. “But this is recorded as our trade balance with America,” Yuliot added.

The government initially opened fuel imports through Pertamina to address fuel shortages at private stations, notably when Pertamina’s refinery output is insufficient. However, Director General of oil and Gas Laode Sulaeman noted that private sector entities have yet to agree to purchase fuel from Pertamina due to differing specifications regarding fuel additives.

“Each business entity has its own specifications of its additives. If the BBM specifications are the same,” Laode explained Wednesday. The Ministry is currently collecting data from private gas stations to relay to Pertamina, enabling the company to determine the volume of additional imports required.

Demonstrations Trigger Insurance Claims, Jasindo and AAUI Respond

recent‍ exhibition activity has prompted insurance claims related to state property, prompting responses from state-owned insurer Jasindo and the Indonesian General Insurance Association (AAUI). As of June 2025, 56 ministries or institutions had insured their assets through the ‌State Property Insurance Program ⁢(ABMN), a‌ decrease from 68 at the end of 2024.

Gema, ‌an official assessing the program, emphasized the importance of insuring state assets (BMN) to mitigate risks from natural disasters and riots, preventing potential financial losses that ⁢could disrupt budget⁣ allocation. ‌”Therefore, ⁤ideally all BMN assets are ⁢insured, although currently not all are protected,” he stated.

Jasindo, as chair of the ABMN consortium, issues policies based on assets registered by each ministry or institution, with premiums paid through the State Budget (APBN). As ⁢of August 2025, Jasindo Insurance protected 43,919 state property.

AAUI⁣ Chairperson Budi Herawan attributed the decline in insured ministries/institutions to the state Budget Efficiency Policy (APBN) and tightening budgets.⁢ The ABMN program began in 2019, and currently boasts 59 member⁣ companies – insurance‌ and ‍reinsurance firms – that must maintain a ‍Risk Based Capital (RBC) of at least 120%, a minimum liquidity ratio of 100%, and avoid sanctions from⁤ the ‍financial Services Authority (OJK) to participate.

Bali Floods Claim At Least Nine Lives, Trigger ⁤Emergency Response

Denpasar, Bali – At least nine people have died ‍across Bali ⁤and East Nusa Tenggara provinces as heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding and landslides beginning on Sunday, February 4, 2024. The disaster has disrupted transportation, damaged infrastructure, and prompted a large-scale rescue operation.

The flooding underscores Indonesia’s⁣ vulnerability to extreme weather events during its annual monsoon season, which typically runs from ‍November to April. These events‍ frequently cause displacement, economic⁣ disruption, and loss of life. President Prabowo ⁢Subianto has directed ⁢the head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB)⁢ to⁤ Bali ‍to oversee emergency⁣ efforts and ensure affected communities receive essential aid.

In Bali, authorities confirmed⁣ at least four fatalities ⁤due ⁢to the floods, with ongoing search and rescue operations focused on locating missing individuals.Videos circulating on social ⁣media, though unverified by Reuters, depict major roadways submerged and ⁤traffic brought‍ to ⁣a standstill. Approximately 200 rescuers have been deployed to assist those stranded and provide support.

east Nusa Tenggara province‍ has also been severely impacted, with the ⁣BNPB‍ reporting four deaths in⁣ the Nagekeo district of Flores island. KPK: Agents Don’t Get Hajj Quotas Without Deposits

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 11, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Jakarta, Indonesia - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed Wednesday that travel agents seeking Hajj pilgrimage quotas were allegedly pressured to provide ‍funds outside ⁣of official channels, with those refusing facing ‍difficulty⁢ securing allocations-including additional quotas-from the Ministry of Religion.

According to Asep Guntur Rahayu, the Acting Deputy for Action and⁤ Execution ‌at the KPK, the practice constitutes an “arbitrary act.” he stated that travel agents are heavily reliant on the Ministry of Religion for ⁢Hajj quota access.”There are requests, even outside [official procedures], because this agent, travel agent, in the ‌context he really depends on the Ministry of Religion to get a quota, so,” Rahayu told reporters.

The alleged scheme ‌has ‍broader financial implications, diverting funds that should be managed by the government for regular Hajj⁣ pilgrims. The KPK estimates that of a 20,000-person Hajj quota,18,400 should be managed by ⁣the state through⁢ the hajj Fund Management Agency (BPKH) to subsidize costs for regular pilgrims.instead, a significant portion is ⁣being channeled through special pathways‍ via‍ travel agents, with pilgrims departing promptly after payment, bypassing government management and resulting⁤ in ⁤lost potential⁢ profits for the state.

The KPK is currently investigating ⁢the matter but has not yet named any suspects. ⁢The ⁤agency indicated the investigation ‌is ongoing and⁢ aims⁤ to address the⁢ financial losses and ensure equitable access to Hajj pilgrimage opportunities. The findings were reported on October 9, 2025.
