officer and Suspect Injured in Roxbury Shooting
BOSTON - A Boston Police Department officer and a suspect were wounded by gunfire early Friday morning in the Roxbury neighborhood, according to police officials.
The incident began when officers were investigating a group of individuals in a park located on Dudley Street.During the examination, one person attempted to flee, initiating a pursuit.
Boston police Commissioner Michael Cox stated that as officers rounded a corner, they were met with gunfire from the fleeing individual. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times in the legs. One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the arm,which is believed to be non-life-threatening.
“This incident underscores the dangers our officers confront daily,” said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, expressing gratitude for their service.
The suspect is currently hospitalized and in police custody. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening. A firearm with a high-capacity magazine was recovered at the scene by investigators.
Along with the officer who was shot, three other officers were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation following the incident.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of either the officer or the suspect involved in the shooting.
