Inter Miami’s Playoff Hopes Hang in the Balance as they Draw with New York City FC

A few rounds before the end of the regular season in the MLS, Inter Miami still has to worry about taking part in the playoffs.

The team, which is still without Lionel Messi, who is out with a muscle injury, cannot get past a 1-1 draw against New York City FC on Saturday.

Santiago Rodriguez puts New York in the lead late in the encounter (77th), but Tomas Aviles (90+5th) can still save Miami a point.

After 30 games played, Inter Miami is only in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, four points short of the top 9 with four rounds to go.

Schöpf can already expect playoffs

Alessandro Schöpf’s Vancouver Whitecaps, who are currently ranked sixth in the Western Conference, have an excellent chance of securing a spot in the playoffs.

Vancouver plays 2-2 against DC United on Saturday. Schöpf comes on as a substitute in the 86th minute.

A goal and a point 🔢

Cristiano Ronaldo Continues Winning Streak with Al Nassr in Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo continues his winning streak with Al Nassr. The capital team won 2-1 against Al Taee on the eighth matchday of the Saudi Pro League and thus achieved their ninth win in their last nine competitive games.

But Al Nassr has to worry about a narrow victory. Talisca gave the guests the lead in the 32nd minute after Ronaldo’s preparatory work, but Misidjan equalized in the 79th minute. A little later, redemption came for Al Nassr when they were awarded a hand penalty. The Portuguese superstar converted this with a shot into the top left corner (87′).

Al Nassr, which now has 18 points, moves up to fourth place in the table with this victory.

Al-Hilal wins despite missing Neymar’s penalty

Al-Hilal remains the league leader in Saudi Arabia. Against Al Shabab, Neymar missed a penalty in the 37th minute when he tried to surprise visiting goalkeeper Kim with a shot into the middle of the goal, but Jorge Jesus’ team still celebrated a 2-0 win in the end.

The top legionnaires Koulibaly, who headed in from a corner to take the lead (68th), and Mitrovic, who easily scored the final score (76th), scored the two goals.

This means that Al-Hilal has 20 points and leads the league by one point over Al-Ittihad, which cannot go beyond a goalless draw against Al Feiha.

Bayern Munich Defeats Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 in Bundesliga Clash

Bayern Munich Defeats Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 in Bundesliga Clash

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 2, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Borussia Mönchengladbach can only almost live up to its reputation as Bayern’s feared opponent on the third match day of the German Bundesliga.

The “foals”, who were unbeaten against Bayern Munich five times in the last season, lost 2-1 to the record champions on Christoph Freund’s debut as Bayern sports director.

Wöber-Assist for the Gladbach leadership

Freund takes a seat on the Bayern bench and sees from there how Bayern are struggling with the Gladbach defense at the beginning. In fact, it is Borussia who pose a threat for the first time: a header from central defender Marvin Friedrich lands on the crossbar (26′).

Less than five minutes later, however, the doorbell rang in the Munich goal. ÖFB legionnaire Max Wöber extends a plea corner with a header to Ko Itakura, who heads the ball into the net in a high arc – 1:0 (30th).

Bayern wobbled briefly afterwards, but almost equalized before the break: Leroy Sane ran over Wöber, who was called up as a left-back, in the penalty area and took a powerful shot, but the ball only hit the bar (39th).

At the break, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel Konrad Laimer comes on as right-back – and Salzburg provides a lot of momentum.

Bayern pressure is too big

After a change of sides, Bayern squeezed Gladbach more every minute and were finally rewarded with an equalizer: after a great high chip ball from Kimmich into Sane’s run, the DFB team player didn’t need to be asked twice this time and made it 1-1 (58’). .

But Bavaria doesn’t have enough. The record champions absolutely want to win, play intensively and with a high degree of dominance for the second goal. Gladbach only concentrates on defending, becomes too passive and is presented with the bill shortly before the end.

After a good corner from Kimmich, Mathys Tel screwed the highest and nodded off to the well-deserved victory in Munich (87th). At this point, Gladbach almost only has more defensive players on the field and can no longer hit back.

With nine points, Bayern are second in the table behind Bayer Leverkusen. Gladbach is in 15th place with one point.

ÖFB legionnaires in action:

Maximilian Wöber (Gladbach) – up to the 74th minute, Assist

Hannes Wolf (Gladbach) – not in the squad

Stefan Lainer (Gladbach) – not in the squad (suffering from lymph node cancer)

Konrad Laimer (Bayern) – from the 46th minute

Phillipp Mwene Returns to Mainz: A Homecoming for the Austrian Footballer

Phillipp Mwene is leaving the Netherlands to join his former club.

The ÖFB legionnaire will return to Mainz 05 for the next three years, the German Bundesliga team announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Mwene has played a total of 73 competitive games (five goals, two assists) for PSV Eindhoven, including eight in the Champions League qualifier, 13 in the Europa League and one game in the Conference League. The 29-year-old also celebrated winning the Dutch Cup twice and the Super Cup three times in Eindhoven.

Mwene: “Like coming home”

“In Phillipp Mwene we are gaining a player who we know well and who is an excellent match for us both in terms of sport and personality, so we have worked long and patiently on this signing. You don’t have to explain Phillipp to Mainz 05 – he fully identifies with him with the style of play here and doesn’t need any time to get used to it. With his variability and his footballing qualities, but also as a guy, he will strengthen our team optimally”, says 05 sport director Christian Heidel about the returnee.

Mwene, who has seven appearances for Austria’s first team, played for Mainz from 2018 to 2021. “For me it feels like coming home,” said the Viennese, who once came to VfB Stuttgart from Austria Wien’s offspring and to Mainz via 1. FC Kaiserslautern (2016 – 2018).

Phillipp Mwene returns to Mainz. 😍😍😍

Nottingham Forest has landed a world champion.

As the “Tricky Trees” officially announce, Gonzalo Montiel is coming on loan from FC Sevilla for the current season. According to reports, last year’s Premier League promoted will then have a purchase option for the 26-year-old right-back.

Montiel has played 23 international matches for Argentina. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the defender was used four times and played his part in the triumph of the “Albiceleste”. Montiel converted the final penalty in the final against France.

He was trained at River Plate in his native Argentina. In 2021 Montiel took the step to Europe to Seville. Now the right-footed player in England is starting a new chapter in his career.

FC St. Gallen Draws 1-1 Against Servette Geneva in Swiss Super League

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

FC St. Gallen drew 1-1 away at Servette Geneva in the fourth round of the Swiss Super League.

The home team takes an early lead through Chris Bedia (6th). St. Gallen tries to equalize, but has to go into the break with a deficit. In the second half, the guests have the better chances.

In the 81st minute, St. Gallen was awarded a corner kick. Möller extends Witzig’s cross to the second post. ÖFB legionnaire Albert Vallci is there and hits the Kreuzeck perfectly from an acute angle. After the winning goal against Lucerne last week, it is the second goal of the current season for the ex-Salzburger.

In the end, it remains with the division of points in Geneva. St. Gallen is in third place with seven points, Geneva is right behind in fourth place with one point less.
