Electric Cars Outsell Diesel in EU, Hybrid and Gasoline Cars Follow Suit

The share of battery electric cars sold rose to 16.3 percent from 15 percent a year ago, again surpassing the share of diesel cars, which remained at 13.7 percent. Some markets, including the two largest, saw significant double-digit increases – Italy by 16.2 percent and France by 14 percent. On the contrary, the German car market recorded a year-on-year decrease of 5.7 percent.

In the 11 months of this year, the number of registrations in the entire Union increased by 15.7 percent to almost ten million cars. With the exception of Hungary, all EU markets grew during this period.

In terms of market share, hybrid electric cars came in second with a market share of 27.4 percent, while gasoline cars maintained their lead with a share of 32.7 percent.

The number of registrations of new battery electric cars in the EU increased by 16.4 percent to 144,378 vehicles in November. Several markets contributed to this growth with double- and triple-digit percentage increases, notably Belgium (up 150.2 percent), which is now the fifth largest market by volume. However, sales of battery electric cars saw a decline in Germany, where they decreased by 22.5 percent. Despite this, year-to-date volume reached nearly 1.4 million units, an increase of 48.2 percent over the previous year. At the same time, this represents a share of 14.2 percent of the car market in the EU.

Volkswagen remained the largest carmaker, increasing sales by 11.4 percent in November. Škoda Auto, which is part of the concern, increased sales by 38.7 percent. The Volkswagen Group has a market share of 26.2 percent. Sales of the second Stellantis fell by 7.3 percent, while sales of Renault, on the other hand, increased by 6.1 percent. Tesla increased sales by almost 45 percent.

Erdogan Condemns EU’s Stance on Israel-Hamas Conflict and Calls for an End to Violence in Gaza

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Erdogan told the media on his return from a visit to Kazakhstan, the Pan-Arab newspaper reported Ašark al-Awsat. As a result, confidence in the EU is “deeply shaken”, the Turkish president added.

At the same time, he said that he had severed contacts with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because of Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip. “Netanyahu is no longer someone we can talk to. We wrote him off,” he said, stressing that the Israeli prime minister bears responsibility for the violence in Gaza and that he has “lost the support of his own citizens.”

“They have to take a step back and stop it,” Erdogan added, however, saying that Ankara would not cut ties with Israel per se. “Complete severance of ties is not possible, especially not in international diplomacy,” Erdogan said, according to television al-Arabija.

According to Erdogan, the main criminal responsible for the massacres in Gaza is the West

The president also confirmed that the head of Turkey’s MIT intelligence service, Ibrahim Kalin, was trying to broker an end to the war in Gaza. “He is talking to the Israeli side, but of course he is also negotiating with Palestine and Hamas,” he added.

According to Erdogan, the Gaza Strip must become part of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state after the end of the conflict. Turkey will not allow the Palestinians to be gradually “erased from history”, he stressed.

Ankara has criticized Israel’s retaliatory actions in the Gaza Strip from the very beginning and has made it clear that Hamas is not the terrorist organization that Western countries label the movement as.

Germany’s Search for Synthetic Fuels: The Future of Combustion Engines and Carbon-Neutral Fuel

Germany’s Search for Synthetic Fuels: The Future of Combustion Engines and Carbon-Neutral Fuel

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 22, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Germany wanted to take up the search for an alternative in the form of synthetic fuels, which, among other European countries, asked for partners for potential research and knowledge sharing. The development of carbon-neutral fuel could ultimately be the way to keep combustion engines alive. The recent Munich Motor Show also helped promote the idea. But everything is different in the end.

According to the Italian website Politico, only three countries – the Czech Republic, Japan and Morocco – expressed their support for the proposal. With us and the Japanese, this is understandable due to the extensive automobile industry, while Morocco hoped to use the potential of “green” sources to produce hydrogen, which could be another possibility in the future in passenger transport.

It was the lack of support from other European states that ultimately forced Berlin to back down. At the same time, countries such as Germany and Italy strongly supported various alternatives. Some because their country produces cars that are hard to imagine without combustion engines (such as Italian super sports), others simply warn against an exclusively electric future and dependence on Chinese raw materials.

Porsche has relied on synthetic fuels to keep its countless classics alive.

The effort was therefore to include at least some form of alternative in the proposed ban on internal combustion engines, which, according to the European Union, should enter into force from 2035. It was e-fuel that could have been a suitable opportunity, despite today’s high costs. In short, it costs something to create a carbon-neutral fuel, especially when it is only produced in very limited quantities. Depending on the sources used, the price for a liter of e-fuel today ranges from 70 to 100 CZK.

One of the leading promoters of synthetic fuels in recent months has been Porsche, whose internal combustion sports cars are an integral part. “Synthetic fuels have a maximum of ten components, today’s ordinary gasoline up to forty. And because it’s a synthetic product, it’s cleaner and better for the engine. In particular, the emissions are incomparably lower,” said Frank-Steffen Walliser, head of Porsche’s sports car department.

In one breath, representatives of the German car company add that synthetic fuels are not meant to ensure the development of new internal combustion engines, but only to enable the operation of current ones, including countless classic cars and vintage cars. It seems that the future is definitely decided…

PSG star Hakimi faces rape charges

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 28, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

French prosecutors on Monday opened an investigation into the alleged rape of Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi. This was reported by the French media, which are close to the case.

According to a source who spoke to the website’s journalists The Parisian, the young woman reported the rape to the police station on Sunday, but did not press charges. PSG representatives and Hakimi have not publicly responded to the allegations.

The public prosecutor’s office, which is handling the case in Nanterre, declined to comment on it, but the agency AFP it complained that “information that had already been published in the media had tainted the investigation”.

The newspaper Le Parisen claims that Hakimi contacted the young woman on January 16 through the Instagram social network. On the night of Saturday, February 25, a young woman went to the player’s house in Boulogne in an Uber taxi that the PSG player ordered.

In his house, according to the damaged items, things got out of control. The Moroccan footballer allegedly kissed her on the mouth, lifted her dress and kissed her breasts, despite her protests. The victim is said to have finally managed to free herself by pushing him away with her foot. Once she was free, she sent a text message to a friend who came to pick her up.

From football

Championship in Qatar, then in Saudi Arabia and finally maybe even on the moon? The water bearers are pausing over the influx of Arab money and ideas from FIFA’s workshop, such as the expanded Club World Cup model. Ronaldo and Messi also play their role in this.

The fact that he was obviously alone at home at the weekend also speaks against Hakimi. According to social media posts, his wife was on holiday in Dubai with their two children.

Hakimi is a very popular soccer player. He was a member of the Moroccan team that finished fourth at the World Championships in Qatar. Hakimi was named in the FIFPro Football Team of the Year at the FIFA Awards ceremony late on Monday night.

Sexual harassment is also behind the end of a powerful official

Also on Tuesday, long-time head of French football Noël Le Graët resigned as head of the French Football Federation (FFF). According to the agency AFP he also resigned in connection with an investigation into alleged sexual harassment.

The 81-year-old man, who had led the FFF since 2011, was suspended from his post in January. In early February, France’s General Inspectorate for Education, Sports and Research said that Le Graët should not return because his “behavioral excesses are incompatible with the performance of his duties”.

—PSG Report (@PSG_Report) February 28, 2023

Le Graët also recently sparked a strong backlash from the football public when he made insensitive comments about French legend Zinedine Zidane. The official said he wouldn’t even answer Zidane’s phone.

The football world was shocked by the news about Hakimi. But this is not an isolated case. Several professional and popular football players have recently faced accusations of attempted rape. One of them is apparently Thomas Partey from London Arsenal, although the British authorities have not directly confirmed that it is him for legal reasons. However, the investigation is still ongoing.

Football player Mason Greenwood from Manchester United also faced this, from the attack she accused girlfriend at the time, who even recorded Greenwood’s aggressive behavior on video. But in early February, the prosecution was stopped, according to the British Crown Prosecution Service, key witnesses withdrew the charges.

European Commission: The EU will avoid recession this year

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 13, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The EC also issued an estimate of the growth of the Czech economy, which will stagnate in the first quarter. For the whole year, GDP will increase by 0.1 percent and will be well below the EU average.

According to the commission, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the countries of the European Union will grow by 0.8 percent this year, which is half a percentage point more than the EC predicted in the fall.

At the same time, the EU executive lowered the estimate of inflation in the twenty-seven member countries, which, according to it, will slow down to 6.4 percent this year.

Inflation in the eurozone unexpectedly fell sharply in January

Economic

The previous forecast counted on seven percent. Inflation should not approach pre-crisis values until next year, when, according to the commission’s estimate, it will fall to 2.8 percent. Last year, it reached 9.2 percent.

For the twenty countries of the eurozone, the commission estimates this year’s economic growth at 0.9 percent, while earlier it counted on growth of 0.3 percent. The GDP growth forecast for next year remains unchanged for both the EU (1.6 percent) and the Eurozone (1.5 percent).

According to the commission’s economists, sufficient gas reserves and the related easing of pressure on energy price growth will contribute to a more favorable development this year.

The fact that the EU countries were able to partially get rid of their dependence on Russian energy is also important. The stable situation on the labor market also helps, where unemployment remained at a record low level of 6.1 percent until the end of last year.

The Commission emphasizes that uncertainty remains particularly high due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and will also be related to the extent of the expected recovery of the Chinese economy after the lifting of strict anti-pandemic restrictions. This can then increase inflationary pressures.

The Czech economy will lag behind

As for the Czech economy, according to the Commission’s forecast, it will stagnate in the first quarter of this year and show growth of 0.1 percent for the whole year. This will be significantly below the expected average for the entire European Union.

The Czech economy could return to faster growth next year, when the European Commission expects GDP growth of 1.9 percent. Last year, the Czech economy grew by 2.5 percent.

Contrary to the previous forecast, the Commission reduced the estimate of this year’s inflation by a tenth of a percentage point, which, according to it, will reach 9.3 percent in the Czech Republic. It would thus be the fifth highest in the entire EU after Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania.

Next year, inflation could approach pre-crisis values and fall to 3.5 percent. Last year’s average value of inflation rose to a record 14.8 percent.

According to the commission, one of the causes of the slow growth of the Czech economy will be this year’s stagnation in household consumption, which will be caused by a decrease in the real income of the population. Next year, however, it should again become the main engine of growth.

The CNB increased the inflation estimate
