Brazen Heist at teh Louvre: Priceless jewelry Stolen in Four Minutes

Paris’s Louvre Museum was the target of ⁣a daring robbery on Sunday, resulting in the theft⁤ of eight items of priceless jewellery. According to the French Ministry of the ‌Interior, ⁣the⁤ heist unfolded ⁣in just four minutes, beginning around 9:30 am ‌(07:30 GMT)‍ after the museum had ‍opened‍ to the public.

The thieves targeted ⁤the Galerie d’Apollon (Apollo’s Gallery), home ⁢to the French crown jewels. Thay gained entry by using a‌ basket lift to reach windows, then employed power tools – specifically a ⁢disc cutter – to breach the glass panes. One ninth item, ⁣the crown of Empress Eugenie, wife ⁣of Napoleon‍ III, was recovered nearby after being‌ dropped during the escape.

Culture Minister ‌Rachida Dati confirmed the speed of the operation, stating, “This operation lasted almost four minutes – it was very quick. We have to say that ⁤these are professionals.”

Authorities report ⁤no injuries to the public, Louvre staff, or law enforcement. While‌ the monetary value of the stolen⁣ items is significant, the Ministry of the Interior emphasized their ‍”priceless heritage and historical value.”

The Louvre was closed for the day for “exceptional⁣ reasons,” ⁢as announced⁣ on X (formerly Twitter). Forensic experts are currently ‌collecting ⁣evidence, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to aid ‍in the examination.

Interior Minister laurent Nunez described the theft as ⁤a “major robbery”‌ involving “jewels of inestimable‌ value.” The‍ thieves‌ escaped on⁤ motorbikes. Reports indicate they accessed the museum via the facade facing the Seine River, an area currently undergoing construction.

This incident‌ is part of a recent trend of museum thefts ⁤in France. Last month, the⁤ natural‌ History Museum in Paris‍ was robbed of⁣ gold⁢ samples worth €600,000 ($700,000), with ⁢thieves using an angle grinder and blowtorch. In November 2023,the Cognacq-Jay museum was targeted, with thieves using ⁣axes⁣ and baseball bats to steal snuffboxes and artifacts.

The Louvre itself⁣ has a history of high-profile thefts, most notably ⁤the 1911 theft of the Mona Lisa, which was‌ recovered two years later in Italy, and‍ a 1983 theft of Renaissance-era armour recovered nearly four decades ⁢later.

Rovanpera Extends Lead as Ogier Withdraws‍ from Rally Czech Republic

Kalle Rovanpera capitalized on Sebastien Ogier’s Saturday retirement to strengthen his commanding ⁤lead at the Rally Czech Republic. The‍ Toyota driver finished ⁤the day ⁤with a ample advantage, positioning himself for a potential ‌victory as the ‌event progresses.

Ogier’s unexpected exit dramatically reshapes the competitive landscape, elevating Rovanpera to⁢ the clear frontrunner. The rally, a challenging mix of⁢ gravel and asphalt stages, now sees a battle for remaining podium positions intensify. This outcome significantly impacts the championship standings, possibly widening Rovanpera’s lead and influencing the strategies⁤ of his rivals.

Behind Rovanpera, Takamoto Katsuta secured‍ a pleasant fourth⁣ place, 58.3 seconds off the pace, benefiting from stage wins on both runs of ⁢the Klatovy stage.⁤ Hyundai drivers Adrien Fourmaux and Thierry Neuville faced difficulties optimizing their i20 N’s performance ⁢despite numerous setup adjustments.

Fourmaux trailed Katsuta⁢ by 39.5 seconds, while Neuville ⁤employed a strategic gamble with wet tires to gain ground in⁤ the morning.Neuville ultimately‍ outpaced fourmaux in the afternoon, finishing seventh [+2m30.9s] ⁣behind Toyota’s Sami Pajari.

The ‍incident occurs amid ‍heightened tensions in the Red Sea stemming from attacks by Houthi‍ rebels targeting commercial shipping. The Houthis claim these ⁣attacks are intended to⁢ pressure Israel to halt its military operations. This latest strike adds to a campaign that has already disrupted global ⁢trade routes, ‍impacted maritime security, and resulted in casualties. Approximately $1 trillion⁤ in goods transited the Red‍ Sea annually before the recent escalation.

The ship’s owners and operators, listed as being based in ⁤India,⁤ have not yet⁤ commented. The Israeli ⁣military stated it was aware of the incident ⁢but did not conduct any operations in the area.

since the ceasefire began on October 10, the Houthis ⁤have not claimed responsibility for any ‍attacks, though their⁢ campaign ‌has resulted‌ in the sinking‍ of four ships and the deaths of at least‌ nine mariners. Their ⁢most recent confirmed attack, on⁢ September 29, ⁢targeted the Dutch-flagged cargo ship Minervagracht, resulting⁣ in one fatality and ⁢one injury among the crew.

Beyond attacks on shipping, the Houthis have also increased threats against Saudi Arabia and⁣ are holding dozens of workers from U.N.agencies and aid⁣ groups, alleging⁢ they ‌are spies – accusations the organizations vehemently deny.

Title: Thiaroye Massacre Death Toll Revealed as 300-400, Report Demands Forgiveness

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 18, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Report Details Premeditation, ‌Cover-Up in 1944 French Massacre of Senegalese Riflemen

A newly submitted⁢ report ‍to the Senegalese president alleges the 1944 massacre of African ‍riflemen at the Thiaroye camp near Dakar was a premeditated act, deliberately covered up by‍ French authorities, and resulted in a considerably higher death toll than previously acknowledged. The 301-page document, authored by a committee led by ⁤historian ‍Mamadou Diouf, calls for official acknowledgement and apology from France.

The incident occurred in December 1944, after approximately 1,300 soldiers from West African nations, who had fought for France⁢ during World War II while captured by Germany, were assembled at the Thiaroye camp. Discontent arose amongst the troops due to unpaid wages and demands for equal ‍treatment compared to white ⁣soldiers. On December 1st, French forces opened ‌fire on the assembled riflemen.

Official French colonial accounts at⁣ the time reported at least 35 deaths. Tho, the report challenges this ‍figure, estimating the death toll to be between 300 and 400. Researchers noted that previous official figures of 35 or 70 deaths were “contradictory and patently‍ false,” ‌and stated that ”more than 400 riflemen vanished as if they had⁤ never existed.”

The report asserts the massacre was “intended ⁤to convince‌ people that the colonial order could not be undermined by the emancipatory effects of the Second World War.” It concludes the operation was “premeditated, meticulously planned and executed,” and points to⁤ the fact that⁤ the riflemen were disarmed, stating they “would ‌have defended themselves” ‌had they been armed, and that “nowhere was the slightest act of resistance ‌mentioned.”

Beyond the Thiaroye camp itself,⁣ the report suggests killings may have also ‍occurred at the nearby train station.

Researchers found evidence of a intentional⁢ cover-up following the massacre, including⁣ alterations to records detailing the riflemen’s departure⁣ from France and⁣ arrival in Dakar.⁢ The report also highlights inconsistencies and gaps in available documentation, noting that “some administrative⁣ and military archives are inaccessible or inconsistent, while others have disappeared or been falsified.” A notable amount of relevant‍ source material‌ is reportedly ⁣missing from Dakar, where‍ archives from France’s former West ⁤African colonies are located, due to transfers to France.

While the ‍committee benefited from collaboration with French archives, they also encountered obstacles,⁤ stating ⁣that “several of ⁣our ⁢questions ‌and ‍requests encountered a wall of smoke and mirrors.”

The report recommends seeking a ruling from the European Court of Human Rights⁣ declaring the Thiaroye massacre a violation of the‌ riflemen’s human rights. It also formally requests that France “officially express a request for forgiveness to the⁤ families, communities ⁤and ⁢populations of ⁣the⁣ countries from ⁣which the riflemen came.”

-title EU’s Charger Law Didn’t Force Apple to Remove Charger from MacBook Pro

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor October 17, 2025
written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Apple’s New macbook Pro Ships Without Charger in UK & EU – A Business⁢ Decision, Not an EU Mandate

Following the release of the M5 MacBook ‌Pro,‌ customers⁣ in the United Kingdom and European Union will find the laptop ships without a⁤ power adapter included in the box. This change has sparked confusion online, with some believing it’s a direct result of new EU ⁣regulations. Though, this ⁣is inaccurate.

Apple quietly updated its online store to‌ reflect the ⁤change, meaning buyers of ‌the 14-inch MacBook Pro in these regions will now need ‍to purchase a compatible USB-C power adapter separately. The laptop⁢ does still include a MagSafe 3 charging cable. This policy does not extend to other markets, like the united States, where a 70W USB-C Power Adapter remains included with ‌purchase.

The speculation arose from the ⁣EU’s 2022 Common charger Directive, which aims to standardize charging ports to USB-C across a range⁤ of devices – including smartphones, tablets, and laptops – and increase⁢ consumer flexibility. While the directive‍ does require manufacturers to offer a version of each product without a charger ⁤to reduce electronic waste,it explicitly does not prohibit including a charger. Companies‍ are free to bundle a ‌charger, or offer it as a no-cost option alongside ⁣the charger-less version.

Apple’s decision to ‌completely remove the charger goes further than the EU law requires. They could have offered a ‌charger inclusion⁣ option ⁤at checkout without violating the directive. The removal is also unnecessary in the UK, which is not subject to EU regulations.

This move appears to be a business decision by Apple, streamlining logistics and packaging by avoiding the need for different product variations (SKUs) within Europe. Though, it shifts the ⁤cost⁣ of a necessary accessory onto consumers who don’t already own a compatible⁣ USB-C power ⁣adapter.

Apple has previously justified ⁣removing chargers from packaging – beginning with iPhones in 2020 – as part of⁢ a broader environmental ⁤initiative. The company claims smaller packaging and fewer accessories reduce carbon emissions and‍ resource consumption throughout its supply ⁣chain.‍

The M5⁣ MacBook Pro ‍remains compatible with existing ⁤67W, 96W, and 140W USB-C power adapters. Apple’s online store now clearly⁣ states “power adapter sold separately” for⁣ customers in the affected regions.

interestingly, the price of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro has been ⁤adjusted ⁤downwards in some European countries – approximately €100 less than the previous model. However, the starting price remains unchanged in the UK.
