hero Rescues Elderly Dog From Harrowing Mud trap in Louisiana

HOUMA, Louisiana – ⁢A severely distressed, elderly dog ‌was pulled from ⁢a deep mud pit in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, on Tuesday after a concerned citizen discovered him struggling. The dog, estimated to ⁣be around ⁤13⁣ years ⁤old, had been ‌sinking in the mire⁤ for hours before ‍being rescued by Clay ⁢Moore, a local resident.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of senior animals‍ and the‌ potential dangers posed by Louisiana’s often-treacherous terrain. While the dog’s ⁣identity remains unknown,‌ his‌ rescue‍ underscores the critical ‌role community ⁤members play in animal welfare and the urgent need ⁣for vigilance regarding abandoned or lost pets, particularly those facing age-related challenges. He is now receiving veterinary care and ⁤is expected ⁢to make a full recovery.

Moore was driving along a ⁣rural road near Houma when he noticed ‌what he initially thought was a discarded object partially ⁣submerged in the mud. Upon closer ‍inspection, he realized it was a dog, visibly exhausted and rapidly sinking. “He was just flailing, trying to keep his head above the mud,” Moore recounted to local news outlets. “I ‌promptly pulled over and ran⁤ to help.”

The rescue proved difficult, as ⁣the mud offered little purchase. Moore waded into the pit, battling ⁤the thick, clinging substance to reach⁢ the dog. After a strenuous‌ effort, he managed to grasp ⁣the animal and pull him free. The dog was ‍covered head-to-toe in mud and appeared severely weakened.

Local animal control officers arrived on the scene shortly after and transported the dog⁣ to a nearby ⁢veterinary clinic. Veterinarians⁤ resolute the dog‍ was suffering from exhaustion and mild hypothermia but had no other ‍significant⁣ injuries. They estimate his age to be approximately 13 years old, making his ordeal even more concerning.

“He’s a sweet old man,” said a veterinarian involved in his care, declining to be named due⁤ to privacy concerns. “He’s getting fluids ⁣and rest, and we expect him to make a full recovery. We’re hoping someone comes forward to claim him,but if‌ not,we’ll find him a loving⁢ forever home.” Authorities are currently investigating ⁤how the dog ended up in the ‍mud pit and ⁤are⁢ urging anyone‍ with ‍information to ‍come forward.

Dollar Stability Amid US Growth Data and Oil Supply Concerns

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 26, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Market‌ Update: Dollar Strength, Oil Price ⁢Rise, and Economic Data

The‌ US dollar experienced significant gains this week, poised for its largest weekly increase in two months.⁢ This surge followed positive ⁤economic data released on Thursday, ⁢including stronger-than-expected figures for US economic growth, ⁣unemployment claims, durable goods orders, and wholesale inventories. The‍ dollar index (USD), which tracks the greenbackS performance against a‌ basket of six currencies,⁣ reflected this strength.

Market sensitivity, initially concerned about bilateral trade agreements reached wiht the Trump administration, has been tempered as these ⁤agreements ⁤haven’t proven as ‌disruptive as initially‍ anticipated.

Focus is⁢ now ⁤shifting to upcoming US economic data, ⁢specifically‌ the release of consumer‍ spending ‌figures and inflation data measured by the Personal consumer Expenses Price Index (PCE)⁤ later on Friday. Investors are seeking further clues regarding the ⁢potential need for additional interest rate ‍cuts by the Federal Reserve. A Reuters poll predicts the PCE will show a 0.3% month-over-month increase and a ‌2.7% year-over-year‌ increase for August.

According to the CME Fedwatch tool, the ⁤probability of the federal Reserve‍ holding rates steady next ⁢month has risen to 14.5%, up⁣ from 8.1% ‍the ⁢previous day. ⁢ Expectations for total⁤ rate cuts⁤ by the end‌ of the year have also decreased, falling below 40 basis points.

The Department of Commerce reported a revised Gross⁢ domestic Product (GDP) increase of 3.8% for the period between April and June, exceeding the initially ‌reported 3.3%. This upward revision surpassed economists’ expectations.

oil Market

oil prices are also on the rise, tracking towards⁣ a weekly increase of over⁤ 4%.⁣ This⁢ increase is largely attributed⁢ to disruptions in Russian energy infrastructure, leading Moscow to halt fuel exports.

Brent crude futures (LCOc1) were trading at $69.55 a ⁤barrel, up $0.13 (0.2%), while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude (CLc1) reached $65.14 a ⁣barrel, a ⁣gain of⁤ $0.16 (0.3%).

PVM analyst ‌Tamas⁢ varga noted that‍ the escalating geopolitical risk premium, fueled by intensified Ukrainian drone attacks, ‍has materialized into a⁣ genuine ‍supply shortage, notably impacting Europe’s distillate deficit. Both Brent and WTI are on track for their largest weekly⁣ gains as mid-June.

Russia‍ announced a partial ban ⁤on diesel exports until the end of the year,‌ expanding its existing ban on ‌gasoline exports. This decision follows a⁤ decline in refining‍ capacity,‌ which has led to fuel shortages in several Russian regions.

NATO’s warning regarding potential ⁤responses to further airspace violations has heightened ⁢tensions related to the war ⁣in Ukraine and raised the⁢ possibility of additional sanctions targeting the ‌Russian oil industry, according to ANZ ‌analyst daniel Hynes.

Positively, oil flow from‌ the iraqi ‍Kurdistan region to Turkey is expected to ⁢resume on Saturday, as confirmed by two officials from the Iraqi Ministry of Petroleum.

However, the strong US GDP⁤ growth of 3.8% annualized ⁢in the ‌last quarter is expected to partially limit oil price gains.

Taiwan Revises Typhoon Ragasa Death Toll Down to 14 as China Begins Recovery Efforts

TAIPEI, Taiwan⁢ – September 26, 2025 ‌ – Taiwan has adjusted teh confirmed death toll from ⁢Typhoon Ragasa down to 14, a reduction of three from the previously reported 17, ⁤as authorities ‌refine casualty counts following the storm’s impact on the ⁣island’s ⁢east coast. The hualien‍ County Fire Department announced the revision on Thursday, ‌attributing the⁤ initial overcount to ⁣double-reporting as assessments ⁢of damage in remote areas continue. The number of missing persons was also lowered significantly, from 152 to 33, as‌ contact is re-established with previously unaccounted for individuals.

The deaths were primarily caused by flooding in Hualien ⁤County,⁢ triggered by heavy rainfall⁣ from Ragasa’s outer bands which caused a barrier lake to overflow, sending a surge‍ of water ‌into the town of Guangfu. Taiwan Premier Cho jung-tai has called for a‍ thorough examination into the ⁤deaths, particularly those occurring on the ground floors of buildings, and emphasized the urgency of locating those still missing, stating authorities must “seize the golden rescue window.”

While‌ the train station in Guangfu has resumed operations, the main‌ highway remains impassable due to a⁤ bridge washed away⁢ by floodwaters.President william Lai Ching-te has pledged to donate a month’s salary‍ to relief efforts for displaced residents ‍and is scheduled to visit the⁤ disaster zone on Thursday.

China Cleanup Underway

Across the Taiwan Strait, cleanup efforts are underway in mainland China after Ragasa made landfall in Guangdong province late Wednesday with winds reaching up to 145km/h (90mph). Reports from the AFP news agency show fallen ‌trees and debris scattered across streets near⁣ the city of Yangjiang.

Authorities⁣ have not yet reported any storm-related fatalities in China.‌ on Hailing Island, administered by Yangjiang, workers are ‍focused on clearing a large tree that fell across⁣ a‌ major road. The⁣ island, a popular tourist destination, relies heavily on ⁣tourism revenue.

Prior‍ to the storm’s arrival, authorities ordered the closure of businesses and schools in at least 10 cities across southern China, impacting tens of millions of people. while nearly 2.2 ‍million people in Guangdong‌ were relocated by Wednesday afternoon, some cities have begun lifting restrictions.

As of Thursday morning,⁣ ragasa had weakened to a⁤ tropical storm with sustained winds‍ of 65km/h (40mph)⁢ after making a second landfall in Beihai, Guangxi. ⁤Chinese state ⁣broadcaster CCTV reports the storm is forecast to dissipate, but remains a ‍threat for heavy rainfall in Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia. Chinese authorities have allocated approximately $49 million⁣ USD to support rescue ⁢and relief operations, according to Xinhua news agency.

Hybrid Car Battery Issues: Short Trips & Environmental Impact

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 20, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Hybrid Cars: The ‍Impact of Infrequent use on Battery Life

Hybrid vehicles, combining petrol‌ adn⁣ electric power, are often touted as‌ an environmentally⁣ friendly option. However, a growing number of owners are experiencing unexpectedly short lifespans for⁢ their 12-volt batteries⁢ – the battery powering the car’s onboard electronics, not used for starting a combustion engine. this issue is particularly prevalent for those who⁣ drive infrequently or‌ make⁢ primarily short trips.

One owner of a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hybrid reported needing‌ to replace⁣ the 12-volt battery twice already,a stark contrast to‍ the five to ten-year ‌lifespan he experienced with previous petrol-powered vehicles. While Toyota recommends increased driving‍ as a solution, the underlying issue appears to be a design characteristic of hybrid systems.

According to Toyota, hybrid 12-volt batteries are intentionally smaller ‍than those found in conventional cars. This reduction⁤ in size contributes to⁤ weight savings and improved efficiency. However,⁢ it also makes them more vulnerable to discharge from limited ⁢use and cold weather.

The manufacturer maintains this isn’t a case of planned obsolescence, stating ⁤that most⁣ drivers won’t encounter‌ problems. But for⁣ those driving less than 3,000 kilometers per‍ year, or who frequently leave their vehicle unused ‌for extended periods, premature⁤ battery wear and potential starting issues are⁤ a real concern.

Nicolas Leuba, president of the Vaudish Union of garagistes, confirms this isn’t isolated to Toyota. ‌”I questioned several garage owners. We have noticed this problem in several brands,” he stated on‌ a recent radio program. While the smaller battery size explains some⁣ of the vulnerability, Leuba believes it doesn’t fully account for the observed lack of reliability.

Experts ⁢emphasize ⁣that choosing⁣ the right vehicle for your driving habits is crucial. Leuba ⁢stresses that different engine types require different usage patterns. For hybrid vehicles, he suggests a revised sales pitch:⁢ “If you drive your vehicle regularly, it ⁢is the ideal vehicle for you. If, conversely, you live in the mountains, far from the city and you rarely use your ⁣vehicle, a hybrid is ⁤not panacea, even an ecological misinterpretation.”

This raises ⁢questions about ⁣the ⁤overall environmental impact of hybrid technology when factoring in the ‌increased frequency of battery replacements, particularly⁢ for drivers whose‌ lifestyles don’t align with the vehicle’s optimal usage profile.
