ล koda Reimagines its “Hundred” as a Modern Electric Vehicle
ล koda is challenging its past positioningโข with a striking new design study for a modernโฃ interpretation of โtheโค ล koda 100. Traditionally, the โคล koda 100 โservedโฃ as the Czechoslovakian people’s car, โwhile luxury models were representedโฃ by Tatra โor Soviet imports. Thisโข new concept aims too elevate the “hundred” to a class capable of competing with vehicles like the Audi A6 or BMW 5 Series.
The design, created by ล koda headlight โdesign team member Martin Paclt, was developed โคentirely using virtual reality. Paclt drew inspiration from the proportions of the current ล koda Superb, resulting in a concept slightly larger inโ scale. He specificallyโฃ chose the ล koda 100โ as his subject due to its historical significance – โit was โขthe first โฃล koda model to exceed one million units produced, and a widely recognizable vehicle in Czechoslovakia, despite carโข ownership remaining a relative luxury โคin the early 1970s.
Paclt was drawn โto the original 100’s “clean and timeless shapes,” finding resonance โคwith ล koda’s current “Modern Solid” design โฃlanguage. he โขnotes the angularโ designโค represented a significant aesthetic shift from the rounded “embรฉฤek”โฃ models of the preceding era, mirroringโข trends in Western European automotive design of the time.
The modern prototype incorporates design cues from the original ล koda 100, including a high door line,โ the classic three-box body shape, and โคintake holes in theโ rear fenders. Despite being envisioned as an electric vehicle, the design retains a functional air intake locatedโ on the rear roofline, reminiscent of the original’s โrear-mounted engine. โคThis intake serves to cool the car’s technology housedโ behind โฃtheโข cabin.
Further echoingโฃ the original, the rear windowless design is intended to visually mirror the shape of the front windshield, a characteristic of the early ล koda 100. The โขvehicle features rear-wheel drive and โmaintains a front โขluggage โขcompartment, as in the โoriginal, alongside a smaller compartment above the electric motor. Modern touches include a sculpted โhood bearing the ล koda inscription and integrated light strips at the front โฃand rear, reflecting Paclt’s โexpertise in headlight design.
The design process began with customary pencil sketches before being fully realized inโ 3D on a computer. Paclt, an eleven-year veteran of ล koda, utilizedโ the current Superb’s design as a foundational starting point, adjusting the proportions to โขachieve the final concept.
