To activate the digital key on their smartwatch, Volkswagen owners must first set up the feature through the Volkswagen Car-Net app and complete a pairing process. The key can be transferred to up to five authorized users, providing versatility for family members or trusted individuals. Volkswagen has indicated plans to expand functionality in future updates, possibly including remote climate control and personalized vehicle settings accessible through the smartwatch interface. The company’s move positions it as a leader in automotive digital key technology, competing with similar initiatives from other automakers.
