Alina Müller scored in overtime Thursday, securing a 2-1 victory for Switzerland over Sweden in the bronze medal game of the women’s ice hockey tournament at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Müller, a forward for the Boston Fleet, netted the winning goal with 0:51 remaining in the extra period, completing a give-and-go play with Ivana Wey. The goal was Müller’s fourth of the tournament and her 16th career Olympic goal, placing her fourth all-time in Olympic women’s hockey scoring, according to reports.

The game was tightly contested, with both teams scoring in the second period. Mira Jungaker opened the scoring for Sweden, while Sinja Leemann responded for Switzerland. Neither team could break the deadlock in regulation time, forcing a 10-minute, 3-on-3 overtime period.

Switzerland’s goaltender, Andrea Brändli, delivered a strong performance, thwarting Sweden’s attempts to score late in the game and throughout the overtime period. Sweden had entered the medal round as the winner of Group B, boasting one of the tournament’s most potent offenses, but were unable to find a way past Brändli.

This marks Switzerland’s second Olympic bronze medal in women’s hockey, their previous podium finish coming at the 2014 Sochi Games. Müller also scored the game-winning goal in that 2014 bronze medal match against Sweden. “We know each other inside and out, and we’ve played together for years on the national team,” Müller said prior to the Games. “We know what everybody needs. If we can bring that on the ice, we’re a very dangerous team.”

The gold medal game between Canada and the United States is scheduled for later today.
