Switzerland’s women’s hockey team secured the bronze medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan on Thursday, defeating Sweden 2-1 in overtime. Alina Müller scored the winning goal for Switzerland in the tenth minute of the extra period, securing their second Olympic bronze medal, following their victory in 2014.

The game was closely contested, with Sweden taking the lead in the 32nd minute through Mira Jungokere. However, Switzerland responded four minutes later with a goal from Sinja Leemann, tying the score at 1-1. Neither team could break the deadlock during regulation time, forcing the game into overtime.

The victory marks a return to the podium for the Swiss team, whereas Sweden’s hopes for a medal were dashed in a heartbreaking defeat. Just the previous evening, Sweden’s men’s team also lost in overtime, falling to the United States in the quarterfinal round.

The final match of the women’s tournament will see Canada face the United States, scheduled for 8:10 PM local time. The Milān-Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympic Winter Games will continue through February 22nd.
