Student Assaults Professor at Polytechnic University of Tulancingo Amidst Bullying Allegations
Pachuca, Hgo. A physical altercation between a student, identified as Manuel, and a professor, Ángel Ramírez Montiel, has led to criminal complaints filed by both parties with the Attorney General of Hidalgo in Tulancingo. The incident occurred last Friday within a classroom at the Polytechnic University of Tulancingo (UPT), with Manuel reportedly stating that Professor Ramírez Montiel had mocked him.
Manuel’s classmates have indicated that the student had previously filed a criminal complaint for violence against the same professor on April 25. Details regarding the nature of this prior complaint have not been disclosed by university authorities or students.
Conversely, professors supporting Ángel Ramírez have confirmed that he formally accused Manuel of inflicting injuries.
In a statement, manuel’s peers have voiced their disapproval of the investigation initiated by the Ministry of Public Education of Hidalgo and the UPT, which could result in the student’s expulsion. They contend that Professor Ángel Ramírez has a history of engaging in teasing and discriminatory behavior, including assigning nicknames based on students’ physical appearance.
The students argue that the university is selectively enforcing its regulations. “However, they forget to mention that they prohibited nicknames between students and teachers; and this teacher was doing that, which is considering bullying,” they stated.
The student group emphasized, “We do not justify the act of the partner, but we do demand justice and that the teacher is punished.”
They further alleged that university authorities were repeatedly informed of Professor Ángel Ramírez’s alleged misconduct but failed to act.
