‘stranger Things’ Creators Defend Millie Bobby Brown Amid Online Criticism, David Harbour Expresses Continued Concern
LOS ANGELES, November 22, 2023 - The Duffer Brothers, creators of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, have publicly supported Millie Bobby Brown following recent online harassment targeting the actress’s appearance. The response comes as the show prepares to release its final season, rolling out in three parts beginning November 26.
Brown,who rose to fame playing Eleven in Stranger Things,recently addressed the criticism in an Instagram video promoting her film The Electric State. She condemned the commentary on her appearance and growth as “bullying,” stating, “I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me… I refuse to apologize for growing up.”
The Duffer Brothers echoed brown’s sentiments in a statement released wednesday,asserting that the negativity directed towards the actress is unacceptable. They praised her talent and dedication to the series throughout its five-season run.
“Millie has been an incredible force from the very beginning,” the statement read. “To see her subjected to this kind of scrutiny is disheartening. She’s navigated immense pressure with grace and maturity, and we are immensely proud of the woman she has become.”
David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper alongside brown in Stranger Things, has long expressed protective feelings toward his co-star. In a 2021 interview on the That Scene with Dan patrick podcast,Harbour spoke of his worry regarding Brown’s fame,saying,”I have a real protective feeling for her… I worry about her and the fame and all that she has to struggle with.”
The final season of Stranger Things will be released in three parts.The first four episodes debut November 26, followed by another set of episodes on December 25.A feature-length series finale will arrive in both streaming and select theaters on December 31.
