Stockton Council Approves Land Donation for Police Operations
“Additionally, we know that folks in North Stockton don’t necessarily always have the best means of transportation to reach our staff. We anticipate that our staff will be at this property,” Captain Bradley Burrell said.
The Stockton Police Department has secured a unanimous city council vote approving the donation of a two-acre property in north Stockton from Verone Plaza LLC, KCRA reported on Tuesday. The land, located in the 7000 block of Shoreline Drive, is earmarked for mounted patrol training, community engagement, and other police operations under explicit deed restrictions that limit its use entirely to police functions.
Addressing North Stockton Access Hurdles
During the council session, Captain Bradley Burrell pointed directly to transportation barriers facing residents in the northern part of the city. The department hopes the new footprint will bridge that physical gap, bringing police staff closer to neighborhoods that often struggle to reach existing facilities.

Council Scrutiny Over Site Classification
Before the vote, council members pressed police leadership on the exact designation of the site. Councilmember Jason Lee questioned whether the plot was intended to function as a police substation.
City officials clarified that the department remains in the conceptual phase regarding how the property will be developed and officially utilized.
Public Demands for Civic Transparency
Public comment during the meeting showed that locals want more openness regarding civic planning. While residents acknowledged the need for safety measures, they demanded clear communication about structural changes.
I am not against substations or things like that. I just think out of fairness, if we are going to do this, I don’t want anything snuck in behind the door. We need to be very transparent, and I think moving forward, when things are like this, you need to really look at the wording, it basically is to me a substation,
a local resident stated during public comment.
Homeowners Welcome Police Expansion as Timeline Remains Undecided
Despite transparency concerns, broader neighborhood sentiment appears receptive to the expansion. Burrell noted that the president of the local homeowners association expressed enthusiasm about the incoming police presence.

Even with the council approval secured, the Stockton Police Department has not yet established a formal timeline for when the Shoreline Drive property will become operational, citing ongoing logistical planning.
