Stock Futures Rise as U.S.-Iran War Concerns Ease Slightly

March 19, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Shares of MDA Space Ltd. Rose in late trading Thursday following comments from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that appeared to de-escalate tensions surrounding the U.S.-Iran conflict. The Toronto Stock Exchange reported MDA Space Ltd. Closing at $45.13 CAD, down 2.23% for the day, while the New York Stock Exchange saw the stock trade at $32.74 USD, a decrease of 2.73% at close, but a slight increase to $32.95 USD in after-hours trading.

Netanyahu stated that Israel was providing intelligence support to the U.S. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and claimed Iran’s capacity to enrich uranium and produce ballistic missiles had been diminished. These statements followed a period of market volatility triggered by concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supplies. West Texas Intermediate futures fell after Netanyahu’s remarks, providing a boost to stock markets that had earlier closed lower on the day.

Despite the late-day rally, major averages are still poised for a fourth consecutive weekly decline. As of Thursday, the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average were down 0.4% and 1.2% respectively for the week, while the Nasdaq Composite had shed 0.1%. Both the Dow and Nasdaq are approaching correction territory, with the Dow 8.3% below its February 10 record close and the Nasdaq nearly 8% off its October 29 high.

According to a report from MarketWatch, MDA Space Ltd. Has a market capitalization of $4.81 billion. The company’s revenue for the trailing twelve months reached $1.19 billion, a 51.2% increase, with a net income of $79.13 million, up 36.7%. Earnings per share stand at $0.61, a 33.3% increase. The company’s earnings call on March 4, 2026, highlighted record growth, according to TipRanks.

Recent news indicates MDA Space Ltd. Secured a contract with the Canadian Department of National Defence on March 18, 2026, to deliver a Ground-Based Optical Capability for Space Surveillance. This contract follows a $300 million U.S. IPO completed earlier in the week, with shares priced at $30.50 each, as reported by Investing.com. MDA Space intends to allocate the $300 million raised to mergers and debt repayment, according to Bloomberg.com and MarketBeat.

Scott Wren, senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, indicated that the market’s reaction hinges on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, predicting this could occur within weeks. Though, Bob Elliott, CEO of Unlimited, expressed skepticism about the market’s optimism, suggesting that stocks are overestimating the potential impact of the conflict on earnings and the economy. He noted that households are experiencing a reduction in real purchasing power, even if the conflict resolves quickly.
