Staten Island Expressway Crash: Driver Arrested, Injuries Reported

A six-vehicle crash briefly shut down a portion of‌ the Staten Island Expressway early Sunday morning, resulting⁣ in ‌the⁣ arrest of a Brooklyn man ‌driving with a suspended license. The ‌collision occurred near South Avenue in Graniteville ‍at approximately 2:42 a.m., prompting a response from the FDNY and NYPD.

Elijah Alabi, 36, was taken into custody after⁤ police steadfast he was operating a 2021 Lexus SUV involved in the‌ crash ⁤while driving with a suspended license, according to the​ NYPD. One‌ of the ‌vehicles involved caught fire, requiring FDNY attention. Two ‍injuries‍ were reported, though the condition of those injured ⁣remains unknown as of Sunday morning.

The crash caused significant disruption to traffic on the Staten Island Expressway during ⁤the early morning hours.‍ While the​ expressway has since​ reopened, the incident ⁢highlights​ ongoing concerns about traffic safety and the consequences of driving with a suspended license.
