st. Petersburg’s Governor’s Symphony Orchestra Launches 80th Anniversary Season with Three-Part Concert Series
St. Petersburg, September 1. /TASS/. The Governor’s Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg begins its season with a three-concert series,dubbed “Opening-Triptych,” showcasing diverse musical genres. The orchestra is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, marking the occasion with a year-long marathon of cultural events.
Artistic director Anton Lubchenko has curated the program, a format already popular with St. Petersburg audiences. The concerts will be held on September 1,3,and 5.
The season opens on September 1st at the Academic Chapel with a performance alongside Symphojaz Honored Artists of Russia, brothers Mikhail and Andrei Ivanovs.
On September 3rd, the orchestra will present “The Last Tale of Sergey Prokofiev,” featuring People’s Artist of Russia Ilze Liepa as a reading ballerina and actress. The performance will integrate musical selections with excerpts from the composer’s letters and diaries.
The final concert on September 5th will highlight early 20th-century Russian classics: Alexander Skryabin’s second Symphony and Sergei Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto,performed with soloist Alexander Kashpurin,a laureate of international and all-Union competitions.
founded on May 10, 1945, the orchestra’s anniversary celebrations will extend throughout the year with events held at the Alexandrinsky Theater, Philharmonic, Capella, and the Hermitage.
