TUCSON, Ariz. – Southern Arizona is bracing for a mix of summer-like heat and potential thunderstorms as the official start of fall arrives Monday. While overnight temperatures will offer a slight reprieve, daytime highs will remain well above seasonal averages through Wednesday.
The transition to fall will be gradual. Residents can expect isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms each day through the middle of next week, with the possibility of stronger storms impacting parts of Southeast Arizona later in the week. Temperatures are currently running 3 to 6 degrees warmer than average, a continuation of the summer heat. Overnight lows will vary across the region, dipping into the 60s for Cochise and Santa Cruz counties, including a low of 66 degrees expected in Sierra Vista. Tucson will see a warmer low of 74 degrees,while most of Pima County will remain in the 70s.
Tuesday’s forecast calls for a high of 95 degrees in Tucson and similar conditions across much of Pima County. Sierra Vista and other areas of Cochise County are expected to reach the 80s.The fluctuating temperatures highlight the ongoing shift from summer to fall, offering brief moments of cooler weather alongside continued heat.
