Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition Leaked as Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive
A leaker on the ResetEra forum has claimed that Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 23.
The report follows the recent publication of a game rating for the title in Korea. Although Sonic Frontiers is already available on the original Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the emergence of a “Definitive Edition” rating has led to speculation regarding a specialized version for newer hardware.
Details of the ResetEra Leak
The leaker, identified as Graczdari, stated that the information regarding the June 23 release date was obtained from a distributor. According to the claims, this specific edition of the game will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Industry analysis suggests the Definitive Edition may focus on technical optimization and performance improvements rather than the introduction of unique content, aiming to utilize the hardware capabilities of the Switch 2 to surpass the original Switch version.
Potential Announcement Timeline
While the release date has been leaked, the timing of an official announcement remains unknown. Some observers suggest the title could be unveiled during IGN Live in June, coinciding with the reported release window.
The original version of Sonic Frontiers remains playable on the first-generation Nintendo Switch, as well as on Steam Deck and other high-complete consoles. The proposed Switch 2 version would represent a targeted upgrade for the platform’s next iteration.
SEGA has not issued a statement regarding the leak or the Korean rating.
