Singaporeans in Israel Stay Positive Amidst Conflict | CNA

March 3, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Singaporeans in Dubai are seeking assistance from their government to secure flights home as regional tensions escalate, according to accounts from citizens contacted by CNA. The situation follows disruptions to air travel caused by the ongoing conflict.

Ms. Ang, a Singaporean resident in Dubai, stated she is awaiting updates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) regarding available flights. Ms. Lim, as well in Dubai, reported receiving emails from the MFA advising Singaporeans to prioritize their safety and adhere to local protocols. Mr. Azam, a tour leader responsible for a group of 27 Singaporean travelers, confirmed he has contacted the MFA for help with flight arrangements and accommodation.

Despite the uncertainty, those contacted expressed a determination to remain calm. Mr. Azam has instructed his tour group to remain together and minimize unnecessary travel outside their lodging. He voiced concern for his group members, noting some have pending work commitments upon their expected return. “At the same time, I’m also worried for them since some have work waiting,” he said, adding uncertainty about employer flexibility given the circumstances.

The group dynamic, however, remains positive. “everyone is managing it so far. Everyone is staying together, supporting each other,” Mr. Azam reported.

Ms. Lim, staying with friends in an apartment near Dubai International Airport, described a resurgence of community support reminiscent of COVID-19 lockdowns. She noted that expats in the city are proactively checking on one another. “Everyone coming together to offer help … It is really bringing out that COVID-style of neighbourly support,” she said.

The current crisis has prompted reflection on regional stability. “As a Singaporean, it teaches me to be grateful … We don’t usually have missile attacks on this side of the world,” Ms. Lim added.

Recent reports indicate significant changes in Himalayan glaciers, including positive mass budgets in some areas, according to research from Cambridge University Press & Assessment and Frontiers. However, these findings are unrelated to the situation facing Singaporeans in Dubai. The status and mass changes of glaciers in the Himalayan-Karakoram region are being actively reviewed, but do not impact the immediate concerns of citizens seeking repatriation from the United Arab Emirates.
