Siemens Lands Huge Locomotive Deals with Akiem and Cargounit

Orders for Vectron locomotives surge past 2,700, nearing 3,000 milestone.
In a meaningful move for the European rail industry, Siemens Mobility has secured two substantial contracts to supply additional Vectron locomotives to leasing giants Akiem and Cargounit, reinforcing its position in the market.
akiem Expands Vectron Fleet
Akiem has formalized a binding order for 10 Vectron Dual Mode (VDM) locomotives, with an option to acquire 40 more. This agreement builds upon the Framework Agreement established in August 2021, which encompassed locomotive supply and related services. deliveries from this new order are slated to commence by the close of 2026. To date, Akiem has committed to 100 Siemens Vectron locomotives.
The Vectron Dual Mode locomotives are engineered to operate on both electrified and non-electrified lines. These locomotives boast a maximum traction power of 2.4 megawatts in electric mode and 2 megawatts in diesel mode, reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h. They are intended for operation in Germany and Austria, with potential expansion into other European nations such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria.
Cargounit Invests in Vectron MS Locomotives
The Polish leasing company cargounit is set to acquire 22 new Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens, supported by European subsidies. Deliveries are expected throughout this year and the next. This latest contract elevates Cargounit‘s total Siemens locomotive count to 106, including 18 Smartron locomotives. The newly ordered locomotives will be certified and equipped for operation in Poland and several other countries, including the Czech Republic.
Siemens Nears Major Milestone
Siemens has received over 2,700 orders for Vectron locomotives,approaching the significant milestone of 3,000 vehicles sold. This demonstrates the strong demand for the Vectron platform in the European rail market.
