Negrito’s Second Chance: How Love Saved One Dog
BUCHAREST — May 9, 2024 — It started with a photo. That image led to the rescue of a starving dog, later named Negrito. Found in dire condition, the dog’s survival was in question. witnessing Negrito’s frail state, Romina and Fabricio took action, beginning a journey of care and rehabilitation. Their dedication shows how one act of kindness can drastically alter a life, proving the transformative power of love and care.
Negrito’s Second Chance: From Vacant lot to Beloved Family Member
It started with a photo. A WhatsApp group for neighbors buzzed with an image of a black fur dog. Romina Tavitian and her boyfriend, Fabricio, knew instantly they had to act. It was June, and the icy temperatures dipped below freezing. The animal’s chances of survival without intervention were slim.
The Rescue
Ms. Tavitian recounts the harrowing discovery: We went with my boyfriend Fabricio to look for him. When we arrived, we found a scene that we had already witnessed other times: a malnourished animal, which was told with the ribs with the naked eye, abandoned to their fate and indifferent to the eyes of the majority of those who had passed there.
The dog, later named Negrito, was in dire condition.
Did you know? Canine ehrlichiosis, the disease Negrito was diagnosed with, is transmitted by ticks and can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, loss of appetite, and breathing difficulties. Prevention is key!
She continued, To grab it we had no inconvenience. I was so weak that you couldn’t move much less standing. Be careful, we wrapped it in blankets and we took it straight to the veterinarian.
Diagnosis and Urgent Care
The veterinarian’s examination revealed the extent of Negrito’s suffering. He was malnourished, dehydrated, and had lost an eye. Further testing confirmed he was positive for canine ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease. According to MSD Animal health, early detection and prevention of tick bites are crucial due to the disease’s nonspecific symptoms.
A Change of Heart, A New Home
The couple’s initial intention was simply to rescue and rehabilitate Negrito. Though, their feelings quickly evolved. At that time, we had already fond of Negrito and decided that, when he left the clinic, we would integrate it into our family,
Ms. Tavitian explained. someone had abandoned it in a vacant lot and our hearts squeezed just thinking that it was alone in life. Little by little, he won his place and today is already one of us.
Recovery and Rehabilitation
Months of dedicated care followed. Romina and Fabricio nursed Negrito back to health.Despite being estimated at around 11 years old and likely never having experienced a loving home, Negrito adapted remarkably well.He always behaved very well: in the veterinarian, in the canine and home hairdressing,
Ms. Tavitian noted.
Ongoing Challenges and Unwavering Love
Negrito’s journey to recovery is ongoing. He still faces challenges, including difficulty walking and getting up. He requires constant supervision and assistance. Yet, his spirit remains unbroken.
Pro Tip: Regular, gentle exercise can definitely help improve mobility in older dogs with joint problems.Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best exercise plan for your pet.
A typical day for Negrito involves a lot of rest. We are always raising it to encourage it to walk and move. As we live in an apartment, we try to take it followed by the park so that it is in contact with the grass. In addition, we make sure you receive all the love you deserve.
The couple is exploring physiotherapy to further aid his rehabilitation.
A Lesson in Unconditional Love
Romina reflects on the profound impact Negrito has had on their lives. He is always accompanying us, giving tenderness and waiting for love. It is indeed a wonderful being and we are grateful that it is part of our lives.
