Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested in Modern Orleans on Mardi Gras Day following allegations of simple battery, according to local police reports.
The New Orleans Police Department responded to reports of an altercation at R Bar in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood. Investigators determined LaBeouf allegedly struck an individual multiple times in the head outside the establishment. Witnesses reported that LaBeouf returned to the scene and further engaged in aggressive behavior, allegedly attacking the initial victim and another man, striking the latter in the nose.
Video footage circulating online, published by TMZ, appears to show LaBeouf being restrained by bystanders before police arrived. In the video, a man can be heard shouting at LaBeouf, stating, “We gonna whoop your ass, boy! Chill!” Additional video shows LaBeouf attempting to headbutt someone and lunge at another individual before falling to the ground after being pushed.
LaBeouf was taken into custody and subsequently received medical attention for injuries sustained during the incident, reportedly being treated for abrasions. He was then booked on two counts of simple battery. He was later released, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 19th.
This is not the first time LaBeouf has been involved in a public altercation captured on video. In 2011, TMZ published footage of a physical confrontation involving LaBeouf in Vancouver.
The arrest comes after LaBeouf recently settled a lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, singer FKA Twigs, who had accused him of physical and psychological abuse. The case was resolved out of court in July of last year.
According to reports, LaBeouf had been frequenting bars in New Orleans from Thursday leading up to Mardi Gras, reportedly drawing attention from bar staff during his extended stay.
