Gschnitz, in Neustift, was the epicenter of the storm’s impact. Several massive mudslides occurred in the village. Emergency services, including the fire brigade and police, responded with a helicopter, “Libelle.” The Gschnitzbach overflowed its banks in certain locations.

Focus on Evacuations

The parish church area of Maria Snow in Gschnitz was particularly affected. Gschnitztalstrasse was closed, and a bicycle bridge was destroyed. Residents in the Mühlendorf area were evacuated by helicopter due to the threat of flooding.

Several people were evacuated with the police helicopter.

Stubai Valley Also Impacted

The Stubai Valley also saw significant damage. The Neustifter districts of Volderau and Gasteig were hit by mudslides. The rear valley from Gasteig was cut off, and the Ranalter Straße was closed. The Volderau campsite was evacuated as a precaution, and residents were told to move to the first floor.
