Seoul City Hall’s basement has reopened as “My Friend Seoul, Seoul Gallery,” a 10,193 square meter cultural complex designed to showcase the city’s identity and future vision, officials announced February 12.
The newly renovated space, which had been underutilized for a decade, features interactive exhibits, youth services, a children’s zone, and retail spaces, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The gallery officially opened to the public on January 5, 2025, following a complete remodeling.
During a three-day launch event concluding February 7, the gallery drew over 10,000 visitors, including both residents and international tourists, despite cold weather. Lines formed before opening each day, with visitors exploring exhibition halls, a souvenir shop, and photo zones.
“My Friend Seoul Hall 1” incorporates a 1:1,600 scale model of the entire city, highlighting key projects currently underway. Visitors can as well experience “Play Hangang,” an interactive media installation, and view “Future Seoul Show,” a multimedia presentation updated every 15 minutes. AI kiosks provide information on neighborhoods, projects, and tourist destinations.
The gallery also includes a Kids Lounge offering educational experiences related to city health and lifestyle initiatives, as well as a retail space selling Seoul-themed merchandise. Meeting rooms and a performance hall are also available. The Seoul Gallery is open from 9:00 AM to 21:00 PM, with winter hours from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Admission is free. The gallery is closed on Sundays, January 1, and during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays.
The Seoul Gallery is located in the basement of Seoul City Hall at 110 Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul.
