Seattle Symphony Premieres ”Stream” Symphony to Standing Ovations, Latvian Community Celebrates
SEATTLE, WA – the world premiere of a symphonic work inspired by the animated film ”stream” (“Straume“) took place last night at Benaroy Hall in Seattle, Washington, performed by the Seattle Symphony orchestra and met with enthusiastic standing ovations. The concert marked the first time music from the acclaimed film has been presented in a symphonic format.
The event drew a significant contingent of Latvians from across the united States, with at least 50 of the 2,500 attendees traveling to Seattle to support director Gints Zilbalodis and composer Richard Zalups. Zilbalodis and Zalups were invited on stage multiple times to acknowledge the audience’s appreciation. The premiere underscores the growing international recognition of “Stream,” which has garnered over 80 awards, including an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination.
“This is a very special event, as this is the first ‘Stream’ concert,” Zilbalodis emphasized. “We are honored to do it directly in Seattle.”
A large inflatable cat, brought from Los Angeles by attendee Dāvis Rein, became a focal point of the evening, symbolizing Latvian unity and drawing long lines for photographs during intermission.
“We feel like a big family – Latvians support each other here, and this is especially important at this time,” one audience member shared.Another attendee remarked,”It was worth measuring the long way from Los Angeles to be present at this event.”
