Sara Kulka shares Spiegel bestseller success of her autobiography
Sara Kulka reached the Spiegel bestseller list at number seven with her autobiography, Das Mädchen, das ich retten musste, while sharing her success and past struggles in an Instagram Reel, Promiflash reported.
Kulka Writes Memoir About Childhood Trauma
The 36-year-old author released her life story on October 20, 2026, through Yes Publishing, co-writing the text with journalist and author Fred Sellin. The memoir details severe childhood trauma, including sexual abuse by an uncle, drug addiction during her youth, a stint as a stripper, and toxic relationships. Kulka described the writing process as therapeutic, noting that it forced her to re-examine her past and understand her mother’s history of abuse. Speaking with spot on news, Kulka explained that she wanted to break her family’s generational trauma for the sake of her daughters, stating, I want them to see that they have a strong mom who kept getting back up.
Ex-Husband Attempts to Block Book Publication
The release faced resistance from within her personal life. Kulka stated in interviews that her ex-husband attempted to block the book’s publication because he did not want private matters exposed. She noted that some elements of the book were softened as a result of that opposition. Following the book’s release, Kulka shared an emotional video on Instagram discussing the project. She reflected on periods of severe despair, mentioning that people once attempted to abort her and that she had experienced suicidal ideation before recovering in a hospital. Kulka expressed astonishment at the book’s chart placement, attributing the milestone directly to the support of her readers.
Memoir Reaches Seventh Position of Spiegel List
The memoir’s rise to the seventh position of the Spiegel list marks a significant transition for Kulka, who initially gained public recognition through her fifth-place finish on Germany’s next Topmodel in 2012 and her subsequent appearance in the Australian jungle camp reality format in 2015. Kulka continues to engage with her readership through public appearances, including a book-signing event at Graff.
