Santos Alomar: Puerto Rican Baseball Legend and Family Patriarch Passes Away

Santos⁣ Alomar, a pillar of Puerto Rican ⁢baseball and patriarch of ⁣a renowned sports dynasty, died⁢ today outside⁣ his‍ residence. Dr. Pedro Ortiz Lara certified the death at the‍ scene,and ‌La Monserrate Funeral Home is handling⁣ arrangements. He was 80 years⁣ old.

Born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, in 1943, ⁢Alomar ⁣began his Major ​League Baseball career in ‌1964 with the milwaukee Brewers, launching⁣ a career that spanned more than ⁢a decade. He played for the⁢ Atlanta braves, new York ‌Mets, Chicago White Sox, California Angels, New York Yankees, and ​Texas Rangers.

Following his playing career, Alomar transitioned to coaching in ⁤MLB, ​serving with the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, and San Diego Padres. He was ‌known‌ for his baseball knowledge and leadership.

Alomar ⁤also left a important ⁤mark ​on Puerto ⁣Rican baseball as a winter baseball manager and on the international stage. In 2003, he managed the first Puerto‍ Rican⁢ National Team comprised of professional ‍baseball players in a competition endorsed‌ by the international federation.

He is survived ‍by⁤ his sons, Roberto‌ and Sandy Alomar Jr., both of whom enjoyed​ triumphant careers in Major League Baseball.
