Sancti Spíritus Bolsters COVID-19 Immunity with Booster Campaign
Sancti Spíritus, Cuba – Over 40,000 residents of teh province of Sancti Spíritus have recently received booster doses of the domestically produced Abdala adn Soberana 2 vaccines, as part of Cuba’s ongoing national effort to maintain protection against evolving COVID-19 variants. The ministry of Public Health (Minsap) initiated the booster program to reinforce the immune response within the population.
Niubys Fundora Martín, head of the Provincial Immunization Program, reported that the rollout is being conducted strategically across 23 vaccination centers throughout the province. Priority is being given to those most vulnerable to severe illness, including seniors, healthcare workers, individuals residing in long-term care facilities, and patients in psychiatric institutions.
“The campaign is progressing well within our province,” stated Fundora Martín, adding that a critically important portion of the vulnerable population has already been boosted.
Special attention is also being paid to the health of mothers and children. More than 1,500 pregnant women have been vaccinated to date in 2025, with careful medical oversight and follow-up care reflecting Cuba’s dedication to maternal and child health.
