Seoul, South Korea – March 5, 2025 - Samsung Seoul Hospital has solidified its position as a world-leading medical institution, achieving the top ranking in the global “Smart Hospital” sector for the fifth consecutive year. The hospital also rose three positions to rank among the top 15 hospitals globally overall. This recognition comes as Samsung Seoul Hospital continues to invest heavily in high-tech infrastructure and digital medical innovation, demonstrably improving patient care and operational efficiency.
The hospital’s commitment to digital transformation has been validated by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), a non-profit association focused on improving healthcare through IT. Samsung Seoul Hospital achieved the highest possible grade - Stage 7 – in four key areas: INFRAM, DIAM, EMRAM, and AMAM, earning a rare “four crown” distinction. Furthermore, the hospital achieved a world-first score in the HIMSS ‘Digital Health Indicator’ (DHI) survey.
“Samsung seoul Hospital has reached the level of global leading hospitals through digital medical innovation,” a hospital spokesperson stated. This leadership extends beyond accolades. At HIMSS 2025, the world’s largest medical IT conference held in Las Vegas, USA, Samsung Medical Centre Director Park Seung-woo delivered a keynote address – the first by an Asian hospital leader – outlining the future direction of medical care. Director Park detailed the hospital’s ongoing digital innovation process, initiated since its opening.
The hospital’s digital prowess is also gaining recognition within international organizations. Sohn Myung-hee, head of the Data Revolutionary promotion Team (and professor of emergency medicine), has been elected as the first Korean director of the US Medical Information management Association, signifying global acknowledgement of korea’s advancements in medical technology, spearheaded by Samsung Seoul Hospital.
A key component of Samsung Seoul Hospital’s success is DOCC (Data-Based Operation & Communication Center), a system that integrates all hospital resources – from beds and operating rooms to testing equipment and medical staff. DOCC utilizes data analysis to optimize resource allocation and improve patient flow. The hospital is leveraging this system to proactively address potential bottlenecks, such as patient congestion during procedures like blood draws and CT scans, by simulating scenarios within a “virtual hospital” to optimize staffing and space.
Samsung Seoul Hospital also maintains a strong focus on specialized care, conducting active research and treatment in areas including severe respiratory diseases, secret nucleoccanal lung disease, interstitial lung disease, and lung transplantation, resulting in approximately 30 research papers published in domestic and international journals.###
