Sam Houston Women’s Soccer Defeats McNeese 3-1

Lake Charles, La. – Sam houston women’s soccer concluded its nonconference schedule with a decisive 3-1 victory over McNeese⁢ State at Cowgirl Field on Thursday night. The bearkats’ strong offensive ⁢performance and solid defense secured their third win ‌of the season.

The win marks a positive finish to‌ the nonconference portion of Sam Houston’s schedule‍ as they ‍prepare to enter Conference ⁤USA⁢ play.This victory provides momentum for the team as they transition to a more competitive landscape,aiming to establish themselves as contenders within their new conference.‍ The ‍Bearkats⁤ now look ⁤ahead to ⁣their first⁣ CUSA ​match against⁢ New Mexico State on⁤ September 20th.

Indigo Sims ignited the Bearkats’ attack,‍ scoring just within the first minute of play. Jasmine Dybala quickly followed, heading in a ‍corner ⁣kick from‌ Tiana Johnson in the⁢ 10th minute, extending Sam Houston’s lead to 2-0. McNeese responded with a goal in the 13th minute, narrowing the gap.

The second half⁣ saw Gianna Gomez find the ‌back of the net⁣ in the 50th minute, assisted⁢ again by Tiana Johnson, restoring Sam Houston’s‍ two-goal⁣ advantage. Throughout the match, the bearkats maintained offensive pressure, recording a total of 19​ shots, with 14 on target. ⁤

Defensively,⁢ Drew ⁢tolley recorded three saves, supported by ‍one save from samantha Rank, effectively protecting the Bearkats’ lead. ⁢Sam Houston (3-3-1) will travel to Las Cruces to ‍face New Mexico‍ State​ at​ 8 ‍p.m.on September⁢ 20th.
