Lake Charles, La. – Sam houston women’s soccer concluded its nonconference schedule with a decisive 3-1 victory over McNeese State at Cowgirl Field on Thursday night. The bearkats’ strong offensive performance and solid defense secured their third win of the season.
The win marks a positive finish to the nonconference portion of Sam Houston’s schedule as they prepare to enter Conference USA play.This victory provides momentum for the team as they transition to a more competitive landscape,aiming to establish themselves as contenders within their new conference. The Bearkats now look ahead to their first CUSA match against New Mexico State on September 20th.
Indigo Sims ignited the Bearkats’ attack, scoring just within the first minute of play. Jasmine Dybala quickly followed, heading in a corner kick from Tiana Johnson in the 10th minute, extending Sam Houston’s lead to 2-0. McNeese responded with a goal in the 13th minute, narrowing the gap.
The second half saw Gianna Gomez find the back of the net in the 50th minute, assisted again by Tiana Johnson, restoring Sam Houston’s two-goal advantage. Throughout the match, the bearkats maintained offensive pressure, recording a total of 19 shots, with 14 on target.
Defensively, Drew tolley recorded three saves, supported by one save from samantha Rank, effectively protecting the Bearkats’ lead. Sam Houston (3-3-1) will travel to Las Cruces to face New Mexico State at 8 p.m.on September 20th.
