Sabrina Carpenter addresses Album Cover Controversy,Jokes About Fan Interactions in ‘SNL’ Debut
New York,NY – Sabrina Carpenter kicked off her first hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live with a monologue addressing the reaction to her recent album cover and playfully engaging with the audience, while also showcasing her comedic timing with self-deprecating humor and fast wit.
carpenter referenced the controversial cover photo for her album “Man’s Best Friend,” which depicts her on all fours with an unseen figure appearing to pull her hair. “some people got a little freaked out by the cover. I’m not sure why,” she said. She then revealed the image was cropped, explaining that the figure is actually Bowen Yang helping her up after Martin Short “shoved me out of the buffet line” during the 50th anniversary special.
The monologue also touched on Carpenter’s enjoyment of interacting with fans during her concerts. She engaged with a young audience member named Will from Maryland, stating, “Ooh, what a sexy, unusual place. See, I love talking to normal people. They’re so interesting when they’re real like you.” Though, the conversation took a turn when Will revealed he worked in venture capital, prompting Carpenter to quickly move on.
Carpenter continued with a bit about arresting someone for being “hot,” leading to a cameo by Kenan Thompson, who playfully “arrested” her for “falsely impersonating an officer 200 times at your concerts.” Thompson then revealed he was attempting to purchase a Cameo for his daughter, but Carpenter informed him it would cost $200,000, adding she could be found on Venmo for those interested.
Prior to the monologue, Carpenter participated in a pre-recorded sketch parodying bachelorette trips to nashville, featuring spoof versions of Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” and Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra.” She later performed her No. 1 hit “Manchild” on a stage designed as a bedroom, dressed in a white T-shirt and underwear.
