2025 Format and Teams
The Ryder Cup features a match play format, where golfers compete head-to-head rather then stroke play. The competition spans three days, beginning with fourball (best ball) and foursomes (alternate shot) matches on Friday, followed by all 12 players participating in singles matches on Sunday. Saturday features a mix of fourball and foursomes.A total of 28 matches are played, and the first team to reach 14.5 points wins the Ryder Cup. If the overall match ends in a 14-14 tie, the reigning Ryder Cup champion retains the trophy.
Each team consists of 12 players.Six players qualify based on points earned through performances on their respective tours (PGA Tour for the U.S. and DP World Tour for Europe), while the remaining six are captain’s picks, selected by the team captain.
