Soldier’s Account Highlights Russian Military Issues

While the russian government seldom publicizes desertion cases, social media platforms like Telegram have become conduits for testimonies from soldiers and their families. One such account comes from Yuri duryagin, a soldier who posted a video directly appealing to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Duryagin, reportedly serving in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, detailed severe equipment shortages and a lack of ammunition, stating that only 32 out of 150 soldiers in his unit survived a recent attack. He also claimed to receive less than a fifth of his entitled salary, with his superiors dismissing his complaints.

Furthermore, duryagin alleged that the deaths of soldiers on the battlefield are frequently concealed to prevent compensation payments to their families. “I saw my friends killed in front of my eyes. Their parents were told that they were missing,” he stated.

In a especially disturbing accusation, Duryagin claimed that a commander resorted to shooting soldiers who refused to fight.
