Kyiv – A Russian drone attack struck Ukraine’s capital in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries, including a child, according to Kyiv authorities.
Loud explosions were reported across the city around midnight, with Ukrainian air defense forces immediately responding, officials stated. “Enemy drones are over the city, with air defense responding. There are multiple targets on the capital’s outskirts,” announced Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, via Telegram.
Tkachenko later confirmed the casualties: ”Currently, in Kyiv, there is a total of one dead and seven injured, including one child.” He specified the deceased was a man. Mayor Vitaly Klitschko urged residents to seek shelter during the attack, reporting damage to residential buildings and vehicles in several districts. “There are currently seven injured in the capital. Four of them have been hospitalized by medics,” Klitschko said on Telegram, adding that a 13-year-old was among those wounded.
In the Kyiv region, Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported two women were injured in brovary.”The enemy is heavily attacking the Kyiv region with missiles and drones. Residential areas and people’s homes are under attack,” Kalashnyk stated.
The attack follows a similar wave of Russian drone and missile strikes earlier this week that ignited fires in Kyiv apartment buildings. City officials reported seven deaths resulting from those earlier strikes.
The strikes occur as diplomatic efforts continue, centered around a U.S.-led plan to end the conflict. Ukrainian officials have expressed concerns that the proposal may require significant concessions to moscow. Ukrainian negotiators are scheduled to travel to the U.S. this weekend for discussions regarding the plan, according to a senior official briefed on the matter.
the initial U.S.proposal,developed without consultation with Ukraine’s European allies, reportedly suggested Kyiv withdraw from the eastern Donetsk region and the U.S. implicitly recognize Donetsk, Crimea, and luhansk as Russian territories. While the U.S. has revised the initial draft following feedback from Kyiv and Europe, the current details of the plan remain undisclosed.
