BREAKING: All 192 Miners Rescued After Russian Strike Traps Workers Underground in Ukraine
DNIPROPETROVSK OBLAST, UKRAINE – A major Russian strike on a coal mine in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on Sunday left 192 workers trapped underground, Ukrainian energy firm DTEK reported. Fortunately, all 192 miners have now been successfully rescued, with no injuries reported, according to the Ukrainian National News agency.
DTEK, Ukraine’s largest privately owned energy company, has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks, forcing temporary shutdowns at its facilities and disrupting heating supplies to households.
as winter approaches, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy network, targeting key infrastructure and leaving hundreds of thousands of homes without electricity. President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that thes strikes are intended to create an “energy disaster” across the nation.
Dnipropetrovsk region, a key industrial and energy hub in central-eastern Ukraine, is rich in natural resources including coal, iron, and manganese. Mines in the area are vital for supplying coal to power plants and supporting the national economy.
Russia’s targeting of these mines aims to disrupt Ukraine’s energy supply, weaken industrial output, and exert psychological pressure, as attacks on critical infrastructure hinder both civilian life and military logistics.
In August, nearly 150 Ukrainian miners were rescued following a Russian attack on mines in the region, though tragically, one worker was killed.
