Authorities are still assessing the extent of injuries. Fires erupted in several impacted areas, and firefighters are actively working to contain the blazes. Serhiy Kryvoshenko, head of the Sumy Municipal Military Administration, stated that the city of Sumy alone sustained hits in at least ten locations, wiht residential buildings among those affected.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting 76 out of 104 drones and decoys launched by Russia overnight. According to a statement released on Telegram, 15 locations were struck by drones, while debris from downed unmanned aerial vehicles caused damage in four additional areas.
Attacks Extend to Zaporizhzhia Region
The attacks weren’t limited to the northeast. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, announced that areas surrounding the village of Kushuhum, south of Zaporizhzhia, were also targeted. He indicated that Russian forces likely employed guided aerial bombs, causing damage to electrical lines and gas pipelines. Information regarding potential injuries is currently being verified.
Russia claims Interception of Ukrainian Drones
the Russian Ministry of Defence claims its air defenses destroyed 21 Ukrainian drones in recent hours, the majority over the Smolensk region. Earlier, on sunday evening, reports emerged via the astra Telegram channel of disruptions to operations at the Kaluga airport.Vladislav Shapsha, governor of the Kaluga region, confirmed the destruction of one drone over the municipality of Tarusa, located in the region’s eastern part.
“The situation remains highly volatile, and we are closely monitoring developments on both sides of the border,” stated a source within the Ukrainian Air Force, speaking on condition of anonymity.
These reciprocal attacks underscore the escalating nature of the conflict and the increasing reliance on drone warfare. The targeting of civilian infrastructure, as reported in Sumy and Zaporizhzhia, raises concerns about the protection of non-combatants. The full extent of the damage and any potential casualties is still under investigation.
